More Than Music — It’s Connection. Have you ever heard two birds singing to each other in the morning?…

There is something special about playing the berimbau together.

My daughter (Estrelinha) on the Gunga.
Me (Estilingue) on the Viola.

Two berimbaus. Two different voices. One conversation.

In capoeira the way I was taught, the Gunga lays the foundation—deep, steady, grounding the rhythm and guiding the roda. The Viola has the freedom to answer, improvise, decorate, and play around that foundation. But neither is simply playing beside the other. We have to listen to each other.

And that is where the connection happens.

When we play together, there is a moment when rhythm becomes more than sound. You begin to feel each other’s timing, energy, intention, and spirit. One instrument calls, the other responds. One creates space, the other fills it.

That relationship is at the heart of Capoeira.

The berimbau is more than an instrument—it is the voice of the roda. It guides the game, shapes the energy, and connects movement, music, history, and community.

And when I get to share that language with my daughter, it means even more.

We aren’t just practicing notes or rhythms. We’re learning to communicate without words. We’re building harmony, trust, patience, and connection—sonically, spiritually, and as family.

Thank you to the many mestre and teachers that I have learned from. To be able to continue learning sharing and connecting with my family and so many more families is an amazing thing! Thank you all! taken in Marietta, Georgia by @estilingue_qlc

Please listen until the end. Doing a cover of …
Julie London’s “Cry Me a River” was written by Arthur Hamilton, produced by Bobby Troup, and released in 1955.

I need everyone’s help, talent is high but finances are not so high 🙃

We are looking to do a special concert to help Aaliyah get in the college in the spring next year every little piece helps and we are looking to do a concert and looking to connect with as many people willing to help our cause .

She wants to be a veterinarian working with large exotic animals and wants to peruse musical theater. Social currency helps as well …like share tagging to people whom could help🙏🏾✊🏾.

We have received so many kind words and support for her but not we need a little more! Please and thank you! by @estilingue_qlc

Movement and flow practice is important to help build creativity… I look at individual movements as letters in the alphabet and we creatively put those letters together to make words but some words make better sentences than others… then come the “conversation” between the players that is a different creative process #jogodaginga #quilombolasdeluz #thinkmarietta #capoeira #fitness taken in Marietta, Georgia by @estilingue_qlc
