As people know training this art requires learning a new language. I have my constant battles with learning and applying using the Portuguese that I know. I understand way more than I speak it… because (add all the excuses) 🙃 but thank you @aclaramoraisss for allowing me to work it out with you. We have a symbiotic relationship where she helps me with Portuguese and I help her confidence to move and train capoeira and all that comes with it ! Together we grow! Thank you! #jogodaginga #quilombolasdeluz #capoeira #treinosemfim #movement

We are small but mighty! Jogodaginga has always strive and will continue to be a place for families to grow and feel safe. Our children learn by playing and the games and movements help to build confidence and build strength and balance and self control. Helping control emotions and helping fine alternatives ways to learn and develop. I challenge families to bring your children to a capoeira studio! #jogodaginga #movement #thinkmariettasquare

In the moments we clip and crop, we forget that capoeira is everything that happens before and after what gets glorified on camera.

The cameraman is there to make it look good. That is their job and arguably the villain of true magic.

What matters most is for the people who are actually present.

Did it feel good?
Did it stretch your understanding?
Did it feel unreal in a way that made you question what you thought you knew?

Could you sense the layers of history, the depth of human experience, the Afro-ascetic thread running through it?

That is the real measure.

The moment on camera is just a fragment. The experience is the work.
