[Español Abajo] The third edition of Apantle began its activities with a walking tour around Washington Square Park with artist kL. We embarked on a journey through ecology, colonialism, and slavery in a landscape shaped by its waterways. Minetta Brook still runs beneath the city’s development. Water remembers, and water remains connected to the resistance and lives of the people who once inhabited what was known as Little Africa.

We were also joined by a river made of wishes and the bodies of The Coyote Congregation, as part of an itinerant performance during Climate Week.
Thanks to them and to kL, waters that were once uncovered came back to life.

La tercera edición de Apantle comenzó sus actividades con un recorrido a pie por los alrededores de Washington Square Park junto al artista kL. Emprendimos un recorrido por la ecología, el colonialismo y la esclavitud en un paisaje definido por sus cuerpos de agua. Minetta Brook todavía corre bajo el desarrollo de la ciudad. El agua recuerda y permanece vinculada con la resistencia y las vidas de quienes alguna vez habitaron lo que se conoció como Little Africa.
También nos acompañaron un río hecho de deseos y los cuerpos de The Coyote Congregation, como parte de una performance itinerante durante la Semana del Clima.

Gracias a ellxs y kL, las aguas que alguna vez estuvieron descubiertas volvieron a cobrar vida. by @esunprocesoo

landscape painting has developed parallel to colonial desires to displace, obscure, and render static our relationships to territory and identity

we installed these works inside of mercado abelardo rodriguez. It’s a huge bustling market in el centro, armed with a childcare center, a people’s theater, and iconic second wave Mexican muralist work.

as the landscape changes, so do the people, so too does the way the work is read and interpreted.

all materials gathered in the streets of tenochtitlan (cdmx) monuments to solidarity ⛰️

Beneath a Loving Sky brings together work that is both rupture and rapture. This show charts a map of divergent paths within a loving whole. Each artist is carving out a space for the fantastic and futuric to converge with the particularities of lineage and ancestral tradition. The material conventions within this show are varied and multi-valent: spanning organic matter, found ephemera, oil paints and industrial material. What emerges is both distillation and potential energy––the artists move from moments of contemplative, graphic rendering to explosive, brushy wall installations to hard-edged sculpture.
