600 days.

the song in this video – ‘Rise’ by @raveena_aurora – was released last year (on a Palestinian record label) with dedicated proceeds going to PCRF. i wanted to edit show footage i captured of it with what the song speaks about: the people of Gaza & the refusal to be silent. we have a collective responsibility to respond to this moment in time.

footage shown is a mix of clips from otg in Gaza by Palestinian journalists & from my own videos of protests in NYC since October 2023. by @etchedintomemory

over 50 days have passed with zero aid being let in & constant aerial attacks on Gaza

with these photos, i wanted to share an excerpt from a post of @f__atimaaa yesterday:

“I’ve lost the appetite to write, to speak. It all feels so deeply insulting to our people-to keep analyzing their pain, to make it palatable, to contort their bodies into something the world can stomach. It feels violent.

To crunch the numbers. To ignore torn limbs and say, you could’ve had healthcare instead. To twist ourselves into every kind of argument just to prove they’re worth mourning, only to be met with cold, eerie silence.

It all feels so insulting. So microscopic. So futile.

But this isn’t a letter of despair. We will never, ever abandon this cause, no matter the price. This is merely a reflection, a pause, a mirror held up to a ruined world. A world where blood-soaked blades stare back at us with no shame.

Quitting isn’t an option. Turning your back on Gaza isn’t an option. We haven’t exhausted our efforts to earn the luxury of relief. Take on a fundraiser, take it to the streets, whatever you do- don’t you dare stop.” by @etchedintomemory

last week Palestinians returned to northern Gaza, many by foot, after being displaced to the South in the past 15 months

these historic scenes came after an attempt by the IOF to expel them all from their homes again, like the 1948 Nakba, but instead the return was described by some as the first steps towards reversing that process

when they returned, most have arrived back to the rubble of their homes, occasionally finding a few things amongst the ruins like old photo prints or sentimental items. only a tiny percent of people have come back to see their homes still standing at all

particularly in the North and in Rafah, aid continues to be severely lacking for daily necessities. after 470 days to secure a ceasefire agreement, the IOF is still given a pass to impede the needed help from being delivered. this recovery & rebuilding should not be a bargaining chip

since the first phase of the deal in Gaza went into effect a couple of weeks ago, a larger focus of the IOF has been on the West Bank. life under daily occupation has only become more dangerous & disrupted

this has been especially true with invasions of the northern areas, most notably in Jenin, where thousands of families have been displaced from the refugee camp amidst the destruction. this has also started to unravel in Tulkarem and now Tubas, with the help of the PA

while there are continued attempts to silence those who speak out, these 15 months have shown that the screams for accountability & liberation only need to get louder. by @etchedintomemory

about 40 villages in southern Lebanon have been demolished in just the past two months alone - with more than a quarter of the buildings destroyed, thousands martyred, and over a million displaced. the IOF has failed in their attempted ground invasion, so they retaliate with airstrikes on civilians instead

since early October, northern Gaza has been subjected to an escalated operation of ethnic cleansing & attacks in areas including Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun. journalists left in the North have only been able to cover a small amount of the vast atrocities. civil defense teams have been unable to operate for weeks, leaving no one to reach the injured, and hospitals like Kamal Adwan also have been under intense targeting & siege

the rest of Gaza continues to be trapped, suffering in a concentration camp under displacement & starvation

it’s been 400+ days of this genocide, funded by the US, while the same thing plays out in Lebanon

I’ve tried to search for words for this last paragraph, but words feel so futile. I don’t know what to tell anyone who has become desensitized. but many of us have not. these images & stories are etched into our memories forever. by @etchedintomemory

23-year-old Palestinian journalist Hossam Shabat said a few days ago: “our voices have faded, and our throats have gone hoarse, as we appeal to the world – yet nothing moves, and no one responds”

the silence & inaction of a larger mass reaction has led to an ongoing and escalated siege on Jabalia and the North of Gaza. there’s been no aid let in for three weeks, systematic targeting of the healthcare system, constant airstrikes, and nonstop ethnic cleansing

around $20 billion of our US taxpayer dollars in the past year have funded these scenes we bear witness to. the Democratic party doesn’t entertain the idea of an arms embargo there, nor in Lebanon. yet this is not even widely pushed back against for upcoming elections

the guise of ceasefire talks is long gone, as the word has been co-opted & rendered completely meaningless for months. instead we are gaslit every single day

but the malicious Zionist crimes in Gaza will not be erased & stories of martyrs like 19-year-old Sha’ban Al-Dalou will never be forgotten. there should be no other way forward than to resist this imposed reality. by @etchedintomemory

yesterday the Martyrs of Gaza page, which tells the human stories of Palestinians beyond the numbers, said they do not believe there’s any reason to post anymore.

“It’s no longer worth the risk to send our voice out to a world that is content with mere solidarity” they wrote. who can blame them?

it is not enough to change anything when Palestinians were targeted as they woke up for Fajr prayer at dawn, as just one of hundreds of attacks on shelter schools since Oct.

it is not enough for a father to go get the birth certificate for his twin babies, just 4 days after they were born, only to come back to find his children and their mother gone.

it is not enough for Al Jazeera’s reporter Ismail Al-Ghoul and cameraman Rami Al-Rifi to be targeted for doing their job, only two of 160+ journalist martyrs so far.

it is not enough that the Rafah crossing has been closed for 100 days now, preventing crucial aid from getting in and stopping evacuations.

instead, all of these systematic attacks have been normalized as billions more in funding for the IOF are approved. 10 months of this live-streamed genocide and the cycles of depravity continue. how much longer can we continue to fail Palestinians? by @etchedintomemory

shots from Gaza Solidarity Encampments and community-supporting protests in NYC, starting uptown at Columbia University and the CUNY-wide City College encampment (not pictured: Fordham) to downtown at The New School, NYU, and FIT. ⛺️

a lot can be said about the use of force in arrests overall or how CUNY students were unequally treated + are being more heavily charged, but the priority of these protests is to put the focus on Gaza. to demand this genocide end immediately, for universities to disclose and divest.

the encampments and protests were also a way to celebrate Palestinian life and resistance. and to honor the martyrs, like the renamed Hind’s Hall at Columbia in honor of six-year-old Hind Rajab.

in Gaza, aid and medical supplies are being blocked from entering the crossings in the South, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been displaced again from Rafah, and the North is getting attacked at a new intensity (especially Jabaila refugee camp). the need for a ceasefire continues to escalate. by @etchedintomemory
