New resource - Collective Action, Conscious Change: Disrupting Anti-Black Racism in Ontario Schools

The new ETFO resource, Collective Action, Conscious Change: Disrupting Anti-Black Racism in Ontario Schools, is now available to members on members.etfo.ca. (LOGIN REQUIRED)

The resource was created in response to an issue members have identified as an urgent and ongoing need. It reflects a multi‑year collaborative journey, providing essential context about anti‑Black racism in Ontario schools and offering concrete, practice‑forward strategies that educators can use to disrupt it at every level.

At a time when equity work is increasingly contested, ETFO is clear that addressing anti‑Black racism is fundamental to public education and to our responsibility as a union. by @etfoeducators

URGENT CALL TO DEFEND WORKERS' RIGHT TO STRIKE:
Across Canada, we need to dial up the pressure now. The federal government is pushing for dangerous new powers that would let it break legal strikes. Left unchecked, these changes will tip the scales in favour of big corporations and leave workers with fewer tools to negotiate a fair deal at work.

JOIN the Defend the Right to Strike - National Telephone Townhall
When: Tuesday, October 13 at 6 pm ET / 3 pm PT / 5 pm CT /

Register with @canadianlabour at: workerstogether.ca/events/right-to-strike-townhall/

After pressure from big corporations, the federal government is inching closer to passing changes to labour laws that would make it harder for workers to strike and negotiate fair wages.

But it’s not too late. A massive surge of public pressure now could force the government to change course and stand with workers over big corporations. Join the telephone town hall and hear how you can fight back. by @etfoeducators

It's the World Day for Decent Work; join us in raising awareness and advocating for fair, safe, and dignified labour conditions worldwide.

On this October 7, trade unions are putting young workers at the centre of their demands for decent jobs, living wages, secure employment and respect for workers’ rights.

Over the past year, young people in countries across the world have mobilised for change. Despite different political, social and economic contexts, many share common concerns: high youth unemployment, low wages, precarious work and a cost-of-living crisis that is making it increasingly difficult to build decent lives.

“Young workers are telling us clearly that the status quo is not delivering the future they deserve. Insecure jobs, low wages and a rising cost of living cannot become the norm for a new generation of workers.” @ituc_global @ituccsi General Secretary Luc Triangle. Together as unionists and trade unions, we must organize and build work power to support young workers. #WDDW26 #WDDW by @etfoeducators

On October 5, World Teachers’ Day, ETFO recognizes the expertise and extraordinary commitment of teachers in Ontario and around the world.

“Ontario’s teachers are the driving force behind strong public education. Every day, they bring expertise, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to students,” says ETFO President David Mastin. “On World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate their extraordinary contributions and reaffirm our responsibility to ensure they have the resources, supports, and conditions necessary to help every learner thrive.”

ETFO is encouraging Ontarians to reflect on the teachers who have shaped their lives and to join the call for meaningful investment in public education. Mastin adds, “If we want teachers and students to succeed, the Ford government must act. That means reducing class sizes, expanding and strengthening supports for all students, especially those with special education needs, addressing the rise in violence in schools, advancing equity and inclusion, and tackling the recruitment and retention crisis that is leaving classrooms without qualified educators.” by @etfoeducators
