Amazing show of solidarity from Ontario’s education unions as we begin a new calendar year advocating for adequate school funding and more supports for students.

@otf_feo is proud to stand with our education partners.

Thanks to @aefoprovinciale for hosting!

Powerful three days at the ETFO Summit and OPSBA’s Public Education Symposium. I’ve said it before in our board and committee meetings about the challenges we’re facing, and I was grateful to hear it over the last few days. Education costs more than what we’re currently being funded for, and that affects the services and supports our children receive. We should be bold about asking for the real cost of education and prioritize properly funding schools.

Our kids deserve better, and their future is more important than beer and a spa and gambling. We should act like it. We should vote like it.

Thank you to everyone who provided such interesting and vital keynotes and workshops. Catherine McKenna, who spoke about the challenges and opportunities in serving the public. A panel discussion on where we are now, with special guests Colin D’Mello and Paris Semansky. Ontario’s ombudsman with enlightening insight that I hope everyone took to heart. Conversations about libraries, physical safety, vaping (with a shoutout to PDSB for the progress our board has made!), school food programs, special education supports, and so much more.

This is a collection of people who go through the wild process of elections to earn next to nothing to fight for better for kids in Ontario. I’m so proud to be in this company.

A huge congratulations to all award winners last night, including my dear friend and colleague @karla.bailey! So proud of you.

If you’re wondering what the alternative to this system may be, there are six boards under provincial supervision right now. You can see how it’s going. Questions you might ask: can they do it for less? Are they improving supports/resources for students? Is the system more transparent/accountable? Answers are all publicly available.

Boards not under supervision have trustees, public meetings, public budgets, delegations, and the ability to hold your trustee accountable when the next election comes.

Education in Ontario is more important than the weight it’s been given over the past eight years. Time to do better.

We continue without answers, but continue regardless. We part for now, but none of us are going away.

The 2026 theme for the #InternationalDayofEducation is “The power of youth in co-creating education”. The International Day of Education 2026 will recognize youth and their role as agents of change in achieving inclusive and equitable quality education and building peaceful, just and inclusive societies.

We cannot understate the role of education in advancing development, peace, and equality.

Education is a right, not a privilege. Let’s support educators and ensure everyone has access to quality learning. 🍎📚

We are happy to share that the numbers are in. Make the Season Kind (MTSK), @cbctoronto’s annual holiday campaign, brought together thousands of listeners, raising nearly $1 million in support of food banks across the GTA and helping ensure access to food and critical supports during the holidays and beyond.

The campaign included a community-focused day of live programming, a spirited Bank Challenge, and the results of the School Challenge, where students showcased a strong understanding of food justice through thoughtful projects.
As always, we are so grateful to every single volunteer, donor, fundraiser, advocate and supporter for their rallying efforts! You helped show that we can make a difference for our neighbours facing food insecurity by coming together. Thank you for making the season kind 💛

STRONG VOICES. SHARED PURPOSE.

Local education union leaders came together to discuss common concerns facing Ontario’s education system and to collaborate on strategies for upcoming collective bargaining. These conversations matter — because when education workers unite, we strengthen our ability to advocate for students, staff, and the future of publicly funded education.

Grateful to have delivered BLS CPR training for the ETFO York Region Occasional Teachers with @tacardonrealty_, working hands-on with educators committed to keeping their classrooms and communities safe.

Key takeaways every session reinforces: confidence comes from repetition, real-world scenarios matter, and small corrections make a life-saving difference. Watching participants go from hesitant to decisive is always the most rewarding part of teaching.

If your school, workplace, or organization is looking for professional, compliant, and engaging CPR training led by an experienced Heart & Stroke–aligned instructor, bookings for upcoming sessions are now open.

On November 25th I had the pleasure of leading my “Exploring Mental Health Through Story Drama” workshop using the book “Dark Cloud” by @annalazowski for the ETFO …And Still We Rise Conference. It was an inspiring and empowering gathering of women educators across Ontario. It was an honour to be invited to present! I received feedback that I wanted to share, as THIS is why I started Story Drama Suite. To help other educators gain the confidence and tools to deliver a meaningful drama program! ❤️

EQAO. 😬 A word that strikes fear in the hearts of many kids in Ontario (and teachers alike). Both for very different reasons!

2025 EQAO results are out - only 51% of Grade 6 students and 58% of Grade 9 students met the math standard this year.

This isn’t on the kids. It isn’t on the teachers. It’s the system: underfunded, stretched thin, and set up to fail too many of our students. 💔

If you believe our kids deserve better, let’s turn this frustration into action. 📣 Email your local MP. Share this reel. Demand real investment in public education so every child gets a fair shot at success!!!

What do you think? Do you think the money spent on EQAO is well worth it, or do you think it could do more being spent elsewhere? 🤔
