Developed and directed by Ethan Marks, Silent Scream was a simultaneous screening of four silent horror films from the 1920s, live-scored by an ensemble of soloists featuring Jeonghyeon Joo, Michael Matsuno, Miller Wrenn, and M. A. Harms. Part performance, part installation, and part haunted house, it tested the flexibility of the relationship between sound, screen, and viewer by experimenting with how material can inform a musician’s improvisation and the different ways a sense of ensemble can be created (or destroyed).

Huge thanks to @s.c.mero for inviting me and @jeonghyeon_joo to perform in her electric box theater during her LA Times interview!

Seeing her work receive the attention and recognition it so rightly deserves warms my heart, and getting to play a small part in that is such a privilege. She is an important advocate for experimentation, performance, and everyone being free to do their thingie, and DTLA is richer for her presence.

I can hardly contain my delight, unlike my body, which it turns out is pretty containable 📦
