Cheers to growing up Gay with a flaming capital G.

To the limp wrists in our childhood photos, to telling on ourselves before we could talk. To tears streaked in playground dirt, to the bullies who told us what we were before we knew. To slurs we picked up, dusted off and made our own. To trying on our mothers heels. To their fear we’d die of AIDS. To the tender disappointment of our fathers, if we were lucky. To waiting for a same-sex kiss on TV, only to watch the camera pan away. To the girlfriends whose hearts we broke when our Gaydar beeped for the first time. lo our private, dirty humor, so acerbic it can melt chrome. To our cackle. To “is he...you know?” To that quality straight actors win Oscars for, but can never get quite right. To identifying one another in a packed subway and dark park with a glance. To that swish, lisp and contrapposto. Cheers to our unmistakable softness.

Words fail me right now Lulu. I find it hard to express all the things I am feeling in this moment, how heavy my heart feels after your passing, how strange the world is today without you in it…

You left a lasting impression on me that I will never quite be able to put into words; your legacy here on this earthly plane is infinite and I am incredibly grateful that our paths crossed briefly. Absolute privilege to know you and share beautiful moments that I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.

Seeing how you carried yourself through the hardest and most challenging times of your life was a true lesson in living, you set the bar so high my friend…

My heart aches today, and it always will in your absence, but I am holding onto the memories of us, and all the wisdom you gifted us so selflessly, openly, and cheerfully, always leading with your heart, your sense of humour, kindness and masses of wittiness.

We were never lying when we said we knew each other from another life. We always felt like we met in another time, in another dimension... and we will meet again.

As for this new journey, I hope it goes gentle on you, that you may be at peace wrapped in abundant light... because that is exactly what you were on this earth: a being of light who brightened and filled the lives of everyone who had the chance to know you.

Your loss, not just for us here at Lion King but for the industry at large, is irreparable. You knew everything, and I often speak of you as a human bible. Your wisdom was infinite, and your absence leaves a void that can never be filled.

Sneak peak from a private viewing of this year’s Orchid Festival at @kewgardens

HUGE thanks to @giardini_antonetti for facilitating this and sharing so much with us about this incredible plant.

This year is dedicated to China, and as someone who has always felt a ‘special relationship’ with orchids, it was breathtaking!
I’ve learned about the traditions in Yunnan Province-like how the Bai people paint orchids on their doors to welcome the New Year.

One side a painting, the other a poem; a perfect blessing for the Year of the Horse. They really are the ultimate bridge between tradition and the living world.

Go and visit if you can!
