💥 Stronger regions, stronger Europe. That's the vision our local and regional leaders shared at the opening session of #EURegionsWeek.

As discussions on the future EU budget intensify, CoR members took the stage to make one message clear: cohesion policy must remain at the heart of Europe's future.

With negotiations on the next Multiannual Financial Framework entering a crucial phase, the priorities of regions, cities and the people they represent must be heard. by @eu_regions_cities

People should not be forced to choose between eating or heating.

Yet poverty and social exclusion still marginalise many European citizens. In 2025, according to Eurostat data, 92.7 million people were living in conditions of material and social deprivation.

On this International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, CoR rapporteur Yonnec Polet stresses that the EU must work in close coordination with local authorities and develop with them the best tools for providing social services and support to those in need. by @eu_regions_cities

Women are at the heart of rural Europe. But their potential can only flourish with the right support.

On International Day of Rural Women, CoR members Jesús Ángel Garrido Martínez from @lariojaorg and Karine Gloanec Maurin share why investing in rural women means investing in stronger, more resilient communities.

The European Committee of the Regions continues to call for stronger action to empower women in rural areas, recognising their vital role in local economies and community life, while addressing barriers to services, opportunities and political participation.

Through its For More Women in Politics initiative, the CoR is working to boost women's representation in local and regional leadership.

🇪🇺 Versione in inglese in basso 👇

Why does a better-connected Europe create more opportunities for everyone?

We discussed this during the CoR plenary session with our member Marco Marsilio, who just presented an opinion on connected transport and its role in bring local communities closer together. Check the interview below! ⤵️

🎙️ Your opinion piece refers to the “right to stay” in rural and mountain communities. How could better transport networks help make this a reality?

💬 The right to stay becomes real when no one is forced to leave their community to access jobs, education, healthcare, or essential services. Efficient transport links rural and mountain areas to opportunities, attracts investment, and helps counter depopulation. The right to mobility and the right to stay are two sides of the same coin.

🎙️How can better transport connections strengthen territorial cohesion and bring European regions closer together?

💬Territorial cohesion is built by reducing not only geographic distances, but also economic and social gaps. An integrated transport network enables citizens and businesses to access the same opportunities, strengthens the single market, and makes Europe more competitive. No region should be left behind in Europe’s growth.

🎙️ How have infrastructure investments under your administration helped make your region and its citizens more connected?

💬 In Abruzzo, we have shown that investing in infrastructure means creating opportunities. Examples include upgrades to the regional rail network and the expansion of Pescara Airport, a strategic asset for the local economy and for boosting tourism, including in inland areas. Better connectivity reduces distances, supports businesses, and gives citizens great by @eu_regions_cities
