Community. Belonging. Friendship. Growth. Inspiration.

As I reflect on my 2023, I can't help but feel tremendous gratitude for how dance made its way back into my life. Back in Pennsylvania during my college days and even for a year after graduating, I'd been a member on 3 other groups from my college: Latin Dance, JM Entertainment, and Akile. Then corona hit and for a while I'd take online Steezy classes.

It was around that time in 2019 I discovered the Hive Dance Studio, a whole 1.5 hour drive from me at the time. My first class was Open Popping on November 19th, 2019 - a Tuesday. By my 3rd class on July 23rd, 2021 (it was a Katrina beginner class), I was hooked. But being as I lived quite far, I only took 10 classes in all of that year.

Fast forward through a breakup, a fallout with friends, a job change, and moving apartments, by late summer of 2022 I felt like I had started a new chapter in my life.

And what an incredible chapter 2023 has been! Its been a year of meeting people I admire and even those I inspire. A year of putting in the work and grinding it out in class, participating in dance concept videos, and performing on stage again.

For the experiences shared, memories made, and all the people new (and old) to come into my life, I am happy. I am grateful. I am inspired. I am fulfilled.

What will 2024 bring?

Shoutout to my other classmates and of course our mentor @katrinaendozo for all the support, guidance, constructive criticisms, and pushing us to go outside our comfort zones! taken in The Hive Dance Studio by @eugaddan

Rusty after not skating for at least a month, but with the weather hopefully warming up I can skate more!

Intentions for this sesh were just to explore movement, reacquaint myself with my edges, and feel out potential pain points. My hips and feet were complaining because I kinda just did a cold start without warming up (I had less than an hour of sunlight left lol).
