🎨 Could your artwork become the official image of CINEGÉTICA+SCI 2027?
Artists from around the world are invited to take part in the CINEGÉTICA+SCI 2027 Art Competition, where the winning artwork will become the official image of Spain's leading hunting, conservation and nature exhibition.
This year's theme is European Small Game Hunting, celebrating one of Europe's most deeply rooted hunting traditions and the values it represents: conservation, sustainable wildlife management and respect for nature.

🏆 The winning artist will:
✔️ Become the official image of CINEGÉTICA+SCI 2027.
✔️ See their artwork featured across the event's international promotional campaign.
✔️ Receive a complimentary exhibition stand at CINEGÉTICA+SCI 2027.

SCI Portugal Brings Blue Bags to a Community in South Africa

Small gestures, big smiles.

On September 29th, two members of SCI Portugal carried out a community outreach initiative as part of Safari Club International's Blue Bags programme, in a small village in Droogesloot, near Bela-Bela, South Africa.

Blue Bags filled with school supplies — notebooks, pencils, pens, erasers rulers and more — were distributed to underprivileged children and families, together with footballs and a few sweet treats that brought wonderful smiles and excitement.

Beyond the donations, SCI Portugal specially designed an illustrated, interactive educational leaflet about African wildlife, nature and conservation, encouraging children to appreciate and protect the natural heritage around them.

It was a deeply emotional experience for everyone involved, filled with smiles, gratitude and genuine human connection.

This initiative reflects the spirit of SCI: bringing people and communities together, promoting conservation education and helping build a future where wildlife and local communities can thrive side by side.

🇪🇺 Key takeaways from Brussels following the FACE General Assembly

At the end of the FACE General Assembly in Brussels, Juan Magaz, EU Liaison and Treasurer of the European Committee of Safari Club International (SCI), spoke with Laurens Hoedemaker, President of FACE, and Chris Comer, Director of Conservation at Safari Club International Foundation (SCIF), to hear their main takeaways from the meeting.

International collaboration, joining forces among organisations, and a shared vision for conservation and hunting were among the key themes of the Assembly.

Hunter Fact of the Day | Feeding the Ghost of the Mountains 🏔️🐆

Conservation is connected.

As Ibex and Markhor populations grow through regulated wildlife management, they strengthen the natural prey base available to the Snow Leopard across the mountain ecosystems of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It is a reminder that protecting one species can support an entire ecosystem — and that responsible, science-led wildlife management can have benefits far beyond a single population.

SCI and SCIF participated at the FACE General Assembly in #Brussels, strengthening ties with European partners and sharing our views on international hunting.

SCIF Conservation Director Dr. Chris Comer took part in a panel discussion on “Working with Partners to Ensure the Global Agenda Works for Hunting and Conservation” together with Mr. Gray Thornton is the President and CEO of the Wild Sheep Foundation (WSF) and Mr. Arno Wimpffen Director General of the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC).

Two days of intensive meetings and exchanges in the European Parliament with Swedish Commissioner for the Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy Mrs. Jessika Roswall; the Intergroup for Countryside, Biodiversity and Hunting led by the Spanish MEP Juan Ignacio Zoido organised by the European Landowners Organisation ELO as well with members of the European Parliament.
SCI International Liaison Jeremy Clare, Dr. Zsolt Puha, Chapter President from Slovakia, and Juan Magaz, EU Liaison, were able to share the SCI views on nowadays challenges.

A valuable forum for dialogue and collaboration, strengthening our shared commitment to hunting and conservation.

🚨 Banning trophy hunting to "protect" nature? The serious danger of European import bans.

In this interview, Dr. Zakir Hussain, Chief Conservator of the Wildlife Department of Gilgit-Baltistan, delivers a clear message regarding proposals by countries like France to ban trophy hunting imports:

-28+ years of proven success: Their community-managed sustainable hunting program operates across 65 conservation areas.
-Real economic impact: It has generated over 4 billion Pakistani rupees for the rural economy.
-Social development: 80% of the proceeds go directly to local communities, with 70% of that share invested in education, healthcare, and basic infrastructure.

The result of bans like the one proposed in France?
It disincentivizes the local communities who protect wildlife daily and strips funding from schools and health centers in the most remote valleys.

True conservation relies on science and supporting rural communities -not on ideologically driven bans.

Last Saturday, the SCI Portugal Chapter kicked off the season with its first driven hunt — bringing hunters together for a fantastic day in the field.

From the excitement of the hunt to the moments shared with fellow members, it was a great success and a memorable start to the season. 🦌

Initiatives like these are about more than the hunt itself. They strengthen the hunting community, keep traditions alive and create opportunities to promote responsible hunting and its contribution to wildlife conservation and sustainable habitat management.
