“I Will Survive” always pulls me to the dance floor. But for me, it was never about a breakup with a guy; it was about a breakup with life.
During treatment for oral cancer, while watching my young children play as I lay on the sofa, was a living reminder of everything I was fighting for. I used to tell myself, “I need to survive this.” But that word NEED kept me passive. At the mercy of my cancer. In my darkest moments of treatment, when I didn’t think I was going to make it and found myself planning my funeral, this song hit deeply. It told me to do better. Not “I need to survive.” I WILL survive this. One word. All the difference. I will survive this, and live on the other side of cancer, with my family, fully alive.
