Dust settled and disappointment subsided. 10+ years since I last competed and despite not accomplishing my goal, I’m grateful for the chance to have competed again. Alongside numerous students and teammates, the experience was exhilarating with a handful of takeaways. I needed to fight moving forward, yet I chose to react and defend. I didn’t put into action what I played over in my head the days before the tournament and neglected to take risk even though I know full well there can be no reward without a willingness to take risk. What I can do is absorb the words of my Professors, which is to recognize, learn and move on.

Thanks to my Professor @mikecarbullido and @johnpmeno for the encouragement and instruction. I appreciate you guys immensely. Thanks to all my teammates who helped me prepare. To avoid leaving anyone out, YOU KNOW who you are. 🫶🏽🙌🏽 And to my wife for pushing me, dieting with me and training as if she were also competing 🫶🏽

Perfect moments with a little bit of Luck! 😎

This kid trained in Jiu Jitsu for more than half his life!! 🤯 Professor @mikecarbullido and Professor @evaristobyron promoted Luck to Yellow Belt more than four years after Professor @bjjbax and Professor @ray_mugicajr gave him his first stripe. 😳

The best part about it is that Luck is still so happy. Truthfully, there are ups and downs, but he is always enjoying the journey. We appreciate all the love and support!! We’re grateful for all Luck’s teammates, Professors, coaches, sponsors, and family at Atos.

Different personalities, same goals. #champion

Today Luck and Sage earned their final stripes for yellow and grey belts, respectively. Sage is so stoic, always. Luck is so happy go lucky. They have the same goals, but they react to life very differently, and that’s ok.

It’s like the camera knows their personalities, because these clips all came from the same video! But the lighting looks brighter when the camera focused on Luck. Lol.

It hasn’t hit me but I know it will before the days over. My parents, now both retired, are relocating to live with my brother and my sister in law in Corona. These two have done so much for me my entire life and I couldn’t have asked for a better mom or dad. I can smile knowing that they’ll have many days to catch up for missed time with my daughter @gabbyevaristo my brother @shoyoroll21rza and sister in law @jo_shorty6 and their little rascals.
