officially in the double Ds of this weekly @cityracquetshop play tennis challenge : week TEN. hitting with the homie @therealtofe who played tennis since hs back in (tpain accent) wiskansin. this is actually our second time hitting in the same week, but the first time got too dark to finish a set. lights or too dark, still a litty tennis sesh. by @evelynserves

wrapping week nine of @cityracquetshop’s play tennis challenge! booking courts is overrated (jk im just not always type a enough to book in time 🥲) + wish tennis had more of a pickup game culture—but also grateful for an occasional hitting session with an OG while tai chi music plays in the background. an overall wholesome af session with a good amount of pivots. s/o to chill af homies down for adventure + figuring it out as we go ~ by @evelynserves

with dystopian futures being all the rage, one needs to look no further than the us open to experience it first hand. beyond an increasingly spreading k-economy right in your face, this event gathers the wealthy, the even wealthier, and the hopeful. you can probably guess which group i fall into.

much like hunger games or snowpiercer, humanity has always had appetite for belief. we looove a story, an underdog, a villain, and of course the heroes. it also wouldn’t be pan-am, i mean new york city, without all the celebrities who came to join—and probably got their seats for free. isn’t it ironic how the wealthier you are, the less you pay?

on the flip side, new york has always had an irresistible way of making you feel like you could be in those seats too. you can smell the insatiable ambition in the air. encounters in new york feel bombastic. you’d be a fool to not adorn luxury where it’s demanded in full-display.

yet somehow, maybe even in namesake, arthur ashe stadium manages to feel like the great equalizer. no matter where you’re from, how you got those seats, and what your tennis proficiency may be…we’re unified in collective oohs, ahhs, & honey deuces.

if you’re lucky, you’ll even end up in the same room as people you admire, pioneers in their own right, and maybe even a few controversial icons. sometimes if you really take a good look around you, the stadium feels like a sanctuary with a resounding proverb ‘pressure is a privilege’.

my friend kat whispers to me; you’ll be here next year gorl! this is her first us open, and im beyond grateful she thinks my USTA 3.5 skills can make it to center court. but hey, no belief is too silly in the presence of people who believed in themselves.

after all, i am just a girl who grew up on a small island of guam in a shipping container, played tennis with her sister like king richard’s daughters, and this is now my fifth us open and counting. every single time, i’ve been infinitely grateful including this one.

6-6 in a fifth set tiebreaker? i’m SAT.

it’s also a crime to cheer during service point. so sit down & stfu, respectfully.

can confirm, the us is not okay. but alas, we’re already in guadalajara (wta 500), rio (wta 250), and asia swing + davis cup on deck. this is a year round sport (& the only) baby. 🙂‍↔️
