A podcast to inspire you to live more adventurously in your everyday life 🏄‍♀️

POSTS STORIES REELS

Yesterday was a proper “pinch me” moment 🤸‍♀️

If you’d told me four years ago that I’d be an award finalist sat in Apple Podcasts HQ hearing the latest insights from their team,I’d have been very flattered but also slightly questioning your grasp of reality…! 😁

And then later to share a room buzzing with energy, ideas and filled with creators from all sorts of backgrounds at @indpodawards was simply mindblowing 🤩

I didn’t win.

But also I really did 🏆

Because to me, going along for day was about celebrating the idea of starting something with no idea of where it might lead…

And of showing up consistently - not because I had to or was focused on a goal, but because of the sheer joy and energy I get from having my everyday adventure conversations - and the knowledge that they’ve helped a few other people along the way too ❤️

The Everyday Adventure Podcast is just one, relatively small, part of my work and life - but it’s one that gives back in spades.

So to anyone who is at the start of something that matters to them and is worried that they have no idea where it’s going, my advice is to ask yourself the following questions:

⭐️ Does this thing light me up?
⏰ Can I carve out a small pocket of time to give to this thing, without burning out?
🤯 Can I live with the “not knowing”?
❤️ Would I keep doing it if no one was watching?

If you’re answer is yes to all four, it’s absolutely enough - time to enjoy the ride because you never know where it might lead…✨😊

Huge congratulations to all the winners and finalists - I now have such a long list of pods to listen to 🎧 😊- my fellow category nominee the wonderful @folkonfoot & especially @liv_outsideuk for winning our category with her beautiful podcast @theoutdoorsfix - if you’re into outdoors podcasts or even just genuine, heartwarming conversations I highly recommend you search it out 🏞️

And I can’t finish this post without sending a heartfelt thank you 🫶 to all my incredible guests (close to 100 now 🎉) and my truly extraordinary editor @frantic.tea for all her advice and guidance - and patience! - along the way ❤️❤️❤️ by @everydayadventurepod

So this has totally made my week…🎉🎉

I have just found out that The Everyday Adventure Podcast @everydayadventurepod is a finalist in the Travel and Adventure Category of the Independent Podcast Awards! 🏄‍♀️🏂🏔️🌊🌳

Creating & hosting this podcast brings me such joy & has connected with me with the most incredible people, many of whom I am now lucky enough to call friends 🫶

Safe to say I’m definitely feeling all the feels right now…😅❤️

Congratulations to all my fellow nominees & a huge thank you to my amazing editor @frantic.tea @tremulanetwork who has had my back from day 1 (nearly 5.5 years ago!) 🙏 Over 100 episodes on & there are still so many more stories to tell 😁

Ps Apple Podcasts have created a special room on their app for all the nominees - I will pop a link in my bio so you can get even more pod inspiration too! 🌟 by @everydayadventurepod

When you get the most beautiful review for the @everydayadventurepod that makes your heart sing 🎶- this is why I started the podcast in the first place and it’s a huge part of what motivates me to keep going ❤️ by @everydayadventurepod

Sometimes the best adventures are the ones on your doorstep 💙💚

And this was absolutely the case last night 😊

I was invited to be part of the brilliant new speaker series @hengistburyheadoutdoors supported by @quieter_apparel and I can’t think of a more fitting venue to@talk about all things resilience and #everydayadventures

Given it was a slightly wet Wednesday evening I was anticipating around 10 people to be there - so I was blown away when over 50 people turned up to fill main hall 🤩

And they really were a dream audience - filled with friends from my own local everyday adventures, neighbours and even a former podcast guest too (thanks so much @wildlyemazing for joining!)

And then a whole lot of wonderful people who I’ve never met but share the same passion for the incredible community that Jess and the team at HHO are building and a desire to live life to the fullest in this beautiful corner of the world we are lucky to call home 🌊

Thank you so much much for the invite and to everyone who came along - and those who couldn’t make but sent so many gorgeous messages of support and encouragement 🥰

My cup is definitely full after this one - and I can’t wait to be in the audience for the next speaker in a couple of weeks time! ✨ by @everydayadventurepod

Last week, I published the final episode of Season 8 of The Everyday Adventure Podcast @everydayadventurepod 🎉

10 more conversations to add to the existing 102 episodes 🎧

Honestly, I thought it would be huge sense of relief when I closed the laptop on Friday.

Because whilst I’ve absolutely loved each and every one of those conversations, it’s a lot of work getting the podcast out into the world and I am definitely ready for a break 🏖️.

However, the reality is I actually felt a lot like most people feel at the end of an adventure -a bit flat, a bit sad and a bit lost 😞 Like all that momentum that has gone into the delivery has stopped and now there’s something missing.

Usually this is the point when I go and sign up to something else, to distract myself & give me something to look forward to. But this time, I’m going to try and sit alongside these feelings and take the recovery. Plus there are plenty of things competing for my attention (*I am looking at you doctorate 😬 ) and the summer holidays are just around the corner….🫣

But what would make this sense of loss much easier to handle is if you could do me a small favour and check out some of these conversations with my amazing guests 🙏

It has been such a privilege to spend time chatting with them and I dare you not to be inspired by their perspectives and achievements 💪

So all that’s left for me to say is a massive thank you to the following:
@emmasimpsonauthor @hettykingston @dogwooddaysgardener @_jobradshaw @lifeofbrianandloki @ashalexcooper @outdoorsisforeveryone @vickybikes @thepolaracademy @inclusivepaddleboarding @marinalegree @ascendathleticsngo for your wonderful company and inspiration & of course my ever patient & brilliant editor @frantic.tea @tremulanetwork 🫶

Please do give them a listen and make me happy again 😁 - I hope you find something that resonates, let me know what you think!❤️

In July 2021, I came across @ascendathleticsngo on my feed. An organisation founded by @marinalegree to help women and girls in Afghanistan develop their leadership skills through mountaineering and climbing, their work spoke to everything the podcast stood for and my own background and relationship with this country.

I vividly remember the first conversation I had with Marina - I connected with everything she was trying to achieve and could not wait to record the episode.

And then, a few days after our call everything changed. The Taliban retook Afghanistan with a speed few of us saw coming and I - along with so many of my friends and colleagues were left reeling, trying to process what had happened in a country we held so close.

Ascend were in the thick of this, doing everything they could to prioritise the safety of the women, girls and staff involved in their programmes.

And so the recording never went ahead, although the power of that initial conversation with Marina was not forgotten.

Then a few months ago Marina and I reconnected on LinkedIn. The timing was now right with programs now ongoing in Afghanistan and Pakistan and the result is this - the final episode of Season 8 and a conversation I am incredibly proud to share.

It contains all the elements that sit at the heart of the podcast - access, empowerment, courage, resilience, creativity and - above all - hope.

And whilst I wish we could have spoken back in 2021, in some ways now feels like the right moment to share Ascend’s story - in a world that can feel dark at times, what Marina continues to achieve with her team and this organisation is a beacon of what you can do with tenacity, creativity and a single minded focus on your mission. I left our conversation utterly inspired - I am sure you will too ✨

“This isn’t just about physical access — it’s about creating spaces where people feel they belong.”

Will Behenna @inclusivepaddleboarding is an adaptive paddleboarder, accessibility advocate and founder of multiple initiatives focused on improving access to blue spaces across the UK including Inclusive Paddleboarding and The Beach Access Project.

Through equipment design, coaching and community partnerships, he works to create more inclusive opportunities for people to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of water environments.

Growing up on the Cornish coast, Will developed a lifelong connection to blue spaces. After a spinal injury as a teenager, Will refused to let barriers keep him away from the water. He now dedicates his time to ensuring more people can experience the freedom, wellbeing and adventure that the coastal environment can offer.

Will shares the vision behind the Beach Access Project which launches in Parliament on 18 May. He also sets out his aims as one of the directors at the newly relaunched @hengistburyheadoutdoors - a space he intends to be a centre of excellence for inclusive watersports across the UK.

This is a thoughtful and practical conversation about belonging, dignity and why designing outdoor spaces that welcome everybody matters to us all.

It’s been a hot minute, but The Everyday Adventure Podcast is back 👊

And it’s worth the wait (I mean, I would say that but this one genuinely is 😁)

Craig Mathieson is a polar explorer, motivational speaker and founder of @thepolaracademy , a groundbreaking Scottish non profit that helps young people build confidence, resilience and self-belief through adventure.

He deliberately seeks out “invisible kids”— young people who struggle with confidence, anxiety, bullying, bereavement or simply feeling overlooked. Over the course of an 18 month training programme, teenagers on the programme prepare physically and mentally for an expedition to East Greenland, where they haul sleds across Arctic terrain and discover what they’re truly capable of.

Our conversation centres on Craig’s journey to founding The Polar Academy and the work it does to transform the lives of young people struggling with trauma, low confidence and mental health challenges.

Craig shares stories from his own experiences at school, the inspiration that first sparked his dream of becoming an explorer and how that ultimately led him to create a programme that helps young people discover their strengths. We explore themes of belief, resilience, family support and the life-changing impact of nature.

Craig reflects on why so many young people feel hidden and what it truly takes to help them thrive. From trekking across Greenland to searching for Yetis on the west coast of Scotland, this conversation is both moving and inspiring — a powerful reminder of what can happen when someone believes in you, before you believe in yourself.

Reasons to do things you love 💙

1. It helps the tough and the mundane to feel more bearable.

2. It reminds you that you are person outside of your multiple roles.

3. It makes you smile. And smiling reminds you that you are living in a world that is filled with hope as well as sadness.

There were many, many reasons not to go to the mountains this weekend. But I am so glad that I did.

Ps thank you to my fellow powder hunter @boardwomen for a fabulous few days in the French Alps and always wonderful to catch up with the gorgeous @suesmarshall too 🫶

PPS It SNOWED! ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️ by @everydayadventurepod

I did it! 🎉🎉

Not gonna lie - when I signed up for the @surfersagainstsewage challenge to run 47 miles in February, I actually thought it was 47kms…😳

And in a month that welcomed - in no particular order - a sprained ankle, a downpour inside our extension, a car that quit and a Labrador who decided eating chewing gum was a good life choice, there were many, many times when I felt I’d never achieve it.

But today I decided that I would smash out the final 7 miles (as in my body is now completely smashed 🫣) - and at the point when I felt I’d reached max rain saturation, the sun decided to put in an appearance and allow me to end on a high ☀️

A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored my masochistic plan to squeeze a bit more type 2 fun into the edges of my life - you are all total legends, and if you’ve seen Dirty Business or even just some of th promotional stuff around it, you’ll know what a truly worthwhile cause it is 💩

If you’d still like to donate a couple of pennies my fundraising link is in my bio 🙏 or please visit @surfersagainstsewage to sign their petition - because dirty water impacts us all 🌊 by @everydayadventurepod

This morning yet another of my son’s football games was cancelled due to the pouring rain 🌧️ and soggy ground & my husband has hurt his back and my old girl dog had a tough night & frankly I just felt so fed up with it all and ready to punch winter in the face 👊

And then from nowhere the sun appeared & I had a funny lunch with my daughter & went for a lovely walk with the dogs (with Roxy much happier) and just as we started I heard this robin in a blossom tree (yes blossom!) and just like that I felt like all was ok again 🫶

I am a strong believer that when life feels a lot, the little things can go a long way to help. So thank you sun for appearing when I needed you ☀️and little robin for helping to remind me that spring is on its way 🌸 by @everydayadventurepod
