POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Since 2019, I have been documenting the lives of the women fishers of Hengam Island in southern Iran. Their stories have been published in international publications. These women fish with hooks and work hard to support their families.

One of them is @khajoou , the youngest female fisher in Iran. Bold and determined, she has never allowed traditions or limitations to stop her from pursuing her dreams.

After the war, Khadijeh travelled to Fereydunkenar in northern Iran. I travelled there, too, to document her life away from home. Even far from the Persian Gulf, she continued fishing in a small river near her house and painting traditional southern henna designs for women.

When I first saw her in the north, she was still wearing her traditional southern clothes. It felt as though she had carried a piece of home with her.

Over these seven years, Khadijeh has welcomed me into her home and trusted me to document her life. I am deeply grateful for her trust and companionship.

Now she is back on Hengam, selling fish again. In a recent Instagram Story, she wrote: “As long as the planes are still flying, buy your fish from me.”

In these few words, she captures the uncertainty of these days while continuing to work and provide for her family.

Khadijeh’s story reminds me how deeply our identity is tied to the place we call home. Wherever she goes, the sea, traditions, and spirit of southern Iran remain part of her.

Across the mountains of Aseer, beekeepers move their hives with the seasons, following the blooms from the highlands to the Tihama plains. Photo by @tasneemalsultan #everydayeverywhere

The result is not just one kind of honey, but a whole world of flavours: dark, fragrant Sidr; distinctive Talh from acacia blossoms; rare, pale Majra from flowers growing at higher elevations; and wildflower honeys shaped by the incredible diversity of the region. #saudiarabia

Every jar carries a little of Aseer in it—the altitude, the rain, the flowers, and the changing seasons. 🍯 taken in Abha by @everydaymiddleeast

Lives Between Clay and Fire

A documentary photography project that chronicles the lives of workers in Iraq’s brick factories, with focus on women, children, and young people who practice this grueling trade. Between clay and fire, these workers lead a harsh daily life where living and working are intertwined. Their journey begins with the clay; kneading it, shaping it, and drying it under the sun before transporting it to the kilns where fire transforms it into bricks used to build homes and cities.

The project seeks to bring us closer to the people who work in one of the harshest environments imaginable. Those whose bodies and souls work long hours amid intense heat, smoke, and dust exerting continuous physical labor to provide for their families.

The photographs here were made digitally between Jordan and Turkey and have been sitting on my laptop for some time. I have barely been shooting digital lately, and there have also been periods when carrying a camera at all has felt difficult. Jordan in particular has complicated the way I photograph. I am physically here, yet often feel politically and emotionally distant from much of what surrounds me, and I have been trying to understand what it means to make images from inside that distance. Presence does not automatically produce intimacy, and I do not want to manufacture closeness with a place simply because I happen to be standing inside it.

Ali Asfour is a Palestinian analog photographer, writer, and researcher based between Ramallah, Bethlehem, and Amman. Working primarily with 35mm, medium-format film and digital, he photographs everyday Palestinian life under conditions of regulated movement, contested memory, and ongoing erasure. His practice moves through homes, streets, landscapes, oral histories, and family archives, attending to how identity is lived rather than declared. He approaches photography as a counter-archival act: a way of preserving what persists while questioning the gaps and violence through which official histories are constructed.

Ayda Refugee Camp lies at the northern entrance of Bethlehem, confined to less than one square kilometer of land.
Established in 1950, it shelters Palestinians displaced during the 1948 Nakba and the 1967 Naksa.
Surrounded by the apartheid wall and military towers, the camp remains cut off from Jerusalem and the open lands that once sustained its people.

This photo series documents moments of childhood and resilience, fragments of life that endure despite the camp’s harsh reality.

Palestinian artist Suleiman Mansour laid to rest in Birzeit

The Palestinian town of Birzeit, near Ramallah, held the funeral today of renowned Palestinian visual artist Suleiman Mansour, who died at the age of 79 after a long illness.

Mansour was one of the leading figures of Palestinian art, best known for iconic works such as Jamal al-Mahamil (Camel of Burdens), as well as paintings depicting Palestinian women, olive trees, and the oranges of Haifa and Jaffa.

His work reflected the contradictions of Palestinian life, bringing pain and hope together on the same canvas. He was also known for his famous words: “A Palestinian artist cannot be an artist without being political.” by @everydaymiddleeast

Relatives grieve over the bodies of Palestinians, killed in an Israeli drone strike targeting a beachfront cafe in the port area west of Gaza City, during funeral proceedings at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, Gaza, Palestine on August 19, 2026. At least six Palestinians, including a child, were killed and more than 14 others injured when an Israeli unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) fired missiles at the crowded cafe, despite calls from U.S. President Donald Trump for Israel to cease attacks in the enclave. Following the completion of funeral rites at the hospital, the victims were taken for burial by their mourning families. by @everydaymiddleeast
