Oh boy. Half Term’s upon us again (honestly how do they come round so fast?!), and despite all the best intentions, nothing’s quite sorted for next week just yet...

Well, fear not, because it’s @yonder.climbing to the absolute rescue! Here to save busy East London parents with endless to-do lists(!), with their super popular Craft & Climb Kids Club 🎨 🧗‍♀️

A Club designed cleverly for 7 all the way up to 15-year-olds. Each day provides a winning combo of hands-on creative craft projects, fun group challenges and (of course) climbing activities designed to develop superhuman strength, cat like balance and ninja coordination 🐈 🚀🍭🤸🏼‍♂️🥇

Their friendly and supportive coaches and crafters will guide sessions designed to develop skills and gain confidence. On the bouldering wall, kids will be given encouragement to help progress their climbing prowess.

Arts & craft meanwhile can get messy - you have been warned! They’ll have the opportunity to express themselves, producing anything from designing and printing a cool T-shirt to building a terrarium 🎽

Building teamwork skills, making new pals and having a blast - what more could little monkeys want? 🐒 💥

Drop Off is at 8.30am and collection at 5pm. £75 per day (which seems like a bargain to me).

And when they’re tired of swinging around, why not grab an 18-inch NYC inspired @chevys_pizza from their in-house cafe for the whole gang to share at dinner time? They’ll definitely pick up some extra tips by watching the pros down below 🍕 (Thursdays and Fridays)

⭐️ Neighbourhood favourite spotlight ⭐️

Pre-loved has a big place in many Walthamatowers hearts. E17 is the birthplace of the incredible @the.reloved.club market, there’s a selection of excellent charity shops from @shopfromcrisiswalthamstow to @sctwalthamstow to @traid and more, and there are plenty of fashion-focused pop-ups to keep local treasure hunters occupied.

And leading the way on the re-loved front, is the wonderful @stori_e17.

Run by Sophie, who’s family have been local to the area since the 1940s when her grandparents moved to Walthamstow, @stori_e17 is celebrating it’s 1st birthday and we want to share all about what a wonderful store it is too 🎈🎂

Sitting at the gateway to @walthamstow_village next door to Usman & @haven_coffee, Stori’s “Nothing New” concept lies at the heart of everything they do. Dedicated to responsible shopping, they champion pre-loved fashion, lifestyle goods, curated vintage and a modern approach to up cycling. It’s a true Aladdin’s Cave.

Sophie hunts down bargains at flea markets and carboots across Europe, and the result is a thoughtfully selected range of fashion and lifestyle products, all with their own story to tell 📿🎏

But the fashion is really in a league of it’s own and the prices are more than fair. Interestingly kids and menswear are their biggest sellers, so hats off to the well dressed fellas of East London 🎩

Let’s talk about @azra.leyton and local hospitality.

This fantastic new Afghan restaurant opened a month and a half ago in @tilburyyard, and last Friday we went down to check it out 🇦🇫

The brainchild of local Waheed and his family, this stylish new spot is a very welcome introduction to the area. Mum and Head Chef, Sakeenah, runs an all-female kitchen - providing training and further skills in professional cooking for other local women from the Afghan London community.

I was keen to try the already famous beef Mantu dumplings (they do veggie versions too), so we ordered those, with herby flat bread & a delicious chicken, potato and yoghurt spread.

For mains, we went for the Kabuli Pulao - the national dish of Afghanistan; rice mixed with braised lamb, shredded carrots and raisins, and side dishes of spinach & lentils, lamb kofta and a fresh tomato & onion salsa to cut through. I also spied slow-braised mahicha on the menu, so will be back soon to try that. The dishes are sizeable, so go hungry! I took a doggie bag home, and it was great cold for lunch the next day.

The space feels like a living-room-cum-restaurant with traditional floor seating available. The family’s background is in woodwork, and they fixed the place up, including all the joinery themselves. Now the three siblings run the restaurant. And the service is honestly the best I’ve experienced in ages - I’d highly recommend a visit immediately.

Azra is in good company in as part of @leyton_midland_collective, as this stretch of railway arches goes from strength to strength. Start your day with a stretch at @hotpodyogaleyton, coffee at @perkyblenders & a mooch at a pop-up at @thisishost. Follow with lunch at @ochi_cuisine, ice cream at @chunk_provisions & a pint at @gravitywell_taproom. Continue your crawl, to @swirl_e10 wine bar, for a a cocktail at @pointcocktails & another pint at @libertaliabrewingco. Dins at @azra.leyton + a night cap at @chopshoptavern, before returning the next day for ya fresh bread at @crumbsbakery.london, a class at @fit_as____, tea at @tunspacee10, a pie lunch at @wins_ldn & dins at @burnt.smokehouse

Calling all practioners, speakers, crafters and technicians... 📝

If you haven’t come across @thesonaspace yet, here’s what you’re missing.

A new Filipino-inspired café and wellness space, tucked away off Hoe Street, Sona is the kind of place that really does everything. A special place for people to come together, try something new, learn, move, make & connect.

A very warm ‘welcome back’ indeed to @thebell.e17! 🔔 🍻

It might seem a bit odd to be welcoming back a pub that never actually left… but E17 locals will know that The Bell’s gone through several iterations over the past few years. And now it’s yet again under new ownership… but this time it feels like a home coming to be proud of.

Long before moving to Walthamstow, The Bell, was a household name and always the spot we’d meet friends when in the area. This massive “proper pub pub” holds a special place in many Walthamstow residents’ hearts.

It was a bit gutting therefore, when it suddenly changed into a sports bar. Now as someone who loves watching all sorts of sports, sports bars are great… but opening somewhere new rather than taking over a beloved classic would have been preferable!

So, we were delighted to kindly be invited by the new owners, Alex & Steve, to check it out.

And with over 40 years combined hospitality experience, these two really know what they’re doing. Alex has worked at spots like Le Escargot & Oxo Tower, whilst local Steve has Group Exec Chef experience.

And the food is fantastic. Think pub classics, but elevated. We tucked into starters of prawns and an Asian-inspired salad - both of which were wonderfully zingy and fresh and complemented each other perfectly.

Then we shared half a rotisserie chicken in a honey & ginger glaze with summer greens & slaw, and pulled pork hash with potatoes rosti and fried egg on top - highly recommend!

And we know it’s not always easy to get a decent glass of rosé down the pub… but I enjoyed a delicious glass of Balfour’s Nannette from their Kent vineyard 🍷

And this is all just Phase 1. Phase 2 will bring back 12 iconic hotel rooms above the pub. Everyone knows that Walthamstow is badly missing a decent hotel and when we first moved to Walthamstow and into a 1 bed flat, a great hotel nearby would have made all the difference when family came to stay.

So for now, go for the food & the Guinness, but watch this space for plenty more exciting things to come from this dynamic duo…
