The Romulus is getting the EGW treatment. 👀

We probably could’ve waited until it was finished to show you this.

We didn’t.

Here’s your first look at an upcoming EGW Guide Rod Kit for the 4.25" Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 9mm.

This is one of the first test-fit units out of the machine, so the reverse plug is still wearing its raw carbon steel finish.

Production won’t.

The finished plug will receive a blued / black oxide finish to blend into the front of the Romulus.

The VMC may be finished with these slide stops. We aren’t.

After machining, each slide stop is finished by hand to break the sharp edges, improve its appearance, and prepare it for the next stage of production.

Making one slide stop look good is only the beginning. The real challenge is making the next one look just as good, followed by every other part in the pile.

One part proves the setup. A whole batch proves the process.

As we prepare for another great year with Mines Shooting Sports we felt compelled to dedicate a few posts to our club sponsors. The investment required to get into shooting sports continues to grow. This barrier of entry is even more formidable for college students. Luckily the past couple years our club has had the honor of receiving support from a number of generous companies. These gifts have helped the club offer higher value training, increased our exposure to industry and opened the door for future competition teams! Stay tuned over the next couple weeks as we highlight the coolest sponsored projects we’ve finished, along with some future endeavors you can be a part of!

Today we are highlighting a few club rifles that have been transformed through the help of our sponsors.

Our two Savage MKIIs have been equipped with 4-24x50 Kentucky Long rifle scopes provided by @swampfoxoptics with their sharpshooter mil reticle. These optics are sitting on 40 moa scope bases given to us by @evolutiongunworks. These upgrades have transformed these rifles into fantastic NRL 22 competition and training rifles.

Our Ruger American has been equipped with a Swampfox 2-12x44 Kentucky Long scope with the recce mil reticle and is mounted up with their light-weight freedom rings. It is also equipped with a precision trigger provided by @timney_triggers. This rifle is a valuable training asset for working on long range fundamentals.

Custom DS1911s are fun!

This is @m_taylor_shoots’ @milarmamentcorp DS9 now sporting a @cheelycustomgunworks Steel E2 Aggressive Grip and Aluminum Comp Magwell, @red_dirt_usa Trigger, @evolutiongunworks Ignition Kit, @perfect___zero Angled Grip Bushings & Screws, and @curatedarms 10lb Recoil Spring & 19lb Hammer Spring.

We had fit everything and blended and polished the frame, beavertail, and safeties. He will run this for a bit and then we will perform a custom PVD package down the line.

Ditch the factory MIM. If you're running a Girsan 2311, the extractor is usually the first weak point to give out.

We just dropped our new Practical Extractor specifically for the 9mm 2311. We machine these in-house from solid carbon steel, no brittle molded parts here. We also fixed the massive stress riser found on factory parts by machining a smooth radius at the hook, so it won’t snap under pressure.

People usually get excited about barrels, triggers, and sights.

Meanwhile, the 1911 ejector is over here quietly doing its job thousands and thousands of times. It's one of those parts that doesn't get much attention until it stops doing what it's supposed to do.

That's why we machine our ejectors from solid bar stock instead of using cast or MIM components. It's a small part, but it takes a beating over the life of the pistol.

Reliability starts with quality components, and sometimes the little parts matter the most.

Looks pretty wild from this angle, doesn’t it? 👀

What you’re looking at is the backside of our new Horizontal Machining Center getting hooked up at EGW. That massive looping “chain” system is actually the machine’s automatic tool magazine.

Every numbered pocket around the chain can hold a different cutting tool including endmills, drills, taps, reamers, chamfer tools, and more. The machine automatically swaps between them in seconds while running production.

It’s honestly one of the coolest parts of modern machining to see up close. There’s an incredible amount of engineering packed into systems like this to keep high-speed, high-precision manufacturing running smoothly all day long.

Right now we’re finishing up wiring, plumbing, and setup before this thing officially starts making chips.

More capacity.
