40 years ago today, HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER premiered at the Chicago International Film Festival, rattling audiences and carving out its place as one of the most uncompromising horror films ever made.

Michael Rooker is chilling as Henry, a drifter who murders without motive or remorse. When he falls in with fellow ex‑con Otis and Otis’ sister Becky, the violence spirals into something even more disturbing.

Four decades on, it still feels like a punch in the gut: a portrait of evil that refuses to sensationalise or explain itself, and a reminder that some horror is terrifying precisely because it’s so ordinary.
