Evolve Flowers are thrilled to announce their latest collaboration - with Halliesphere.

When you order one of our stunning bouquets, or Simply Stems, there's nothing worse than watching the flowers take on a mind of their own and flop about all over the place when you try and arrange them yourself.

Enter Halliesphere's Flower Frog.

This clever flower arranger sits either at the neck of your vase/jug/tea cup/vessel, or slightly lower down for those with a wide neck, and helps keep the stems in a circular arrangement.

Why not pop a Halliesphere Flower Frog in the basket the next time you order flowers from Evolve? Make the most of your British-grown beauties.

Perfect as a Christmas present for the person who adores beautiful flower arrangements in the home.

There's Helen peeking through the branches of the trees she's created for These Wicked Rivers and their concert tonight Pavilion Gardens

And here's Part 2 of Helen's inspiration found within the band's latest album. (You can read the first part in our earlier post).

...

Then comes the fire.

Clusters of fiery, everlasting Helichrysum climb through the branches like burning embers — Fire & Folklore quite literally brought to life. And because they’re everlasting, the flames don’t quite go out.

There are darker moments too.

Black accents create shadow amongst the branches, while ivy winds its way through the tree — a reminder of the things that endure, cling on and connect us to what came before.

Rosehips and autumn leaves bring the colours of the changing season — nature’s reminder that everything moves, changes and eventually returns to the earth.

And somewhere amongst it all is our nod to “Woodland Queen” — not a literal character, but a presence. Something ancient and slightly wild watching over the whole thing.

Because Fire & Folklore isn’t simply about a collection of songs. It’s about landscape, memory, family, change and the stories we carry with us.

Which brings us to “Stories” — perhaps the most fitting track of all.

Because folklore is simply this:

the stories people tell, remember and pass on.

So we’ve taken a tree, some twisted branches, a few strange gourds, autumn’s fallen treasures and a handful of everlasting flames…

…and created our own little piece of Fire & Folklore.

These Wicked Rivers — your music made us look at autumn a little differently.

🔥🌿🍂

Evolve is on the road, heading up to Buxton to provide home-grown rock and roll band These Wicked Rivers with some installations.

Helen took inspiration from their album Fire and Folklore...
"We’ve been digging into the world of Fire & Folklore and translating some of its themes into flowers, foliage and found forms.

At the heart of our installation is a twisted willow tree — wild, weathered and full of character.

Woven into its branches are weird and wonderfully textured gourds, bringing a sense of harvest, the earth and those slightly mysterious objects you might discover in an old woodland.

Then comes the fire.

Clusters of fiery, everlasting Helichrysum climb through the branches like burning embers — Fire & Folklore quite literally brought to life. And because they’re everlasting, the flames don’t quite go out."

You'll have to wait for the final reveal, and more insight into Helen's inspo, later.

In the evening, we were delighted to welcome approximately 170 church flower arrangers, local florists, church representatives and other interested local people to 'The Art of Sustainable Church Flower Arranging' with a glass of prosecco and a slide show of photos of sustainable flower arrangements I have taken during my travels around the country, from Northumberland to Cornwall.

The Revd. Canon Sebastian Harries opened with a prayer followed by an explanation about how flowers are used in a church setting and the effect they have on people which set the scene.

I talked about the Sustainable Church Flower movement, their role in the motion being passed by the General Synod and the implications for arranging church flowers. I also gave hints and tips about suitable containers and health and safety.

Next, Linda, one of our talented Flower Guild members, gave a wonderful demonstration of a pedestal design arranged in chicken wire.

Rachael Holden, from the Freckled Foxglove, gave an interesting talk about her local flower farm near Colchester, how to grow your own cut flowers and how to cut and condition them ready for arranging.

During the interval, the visitors were able to examine the arrangements and their mechanics close up. Rachael had a table with lots of information sheets and seed catalogues from local suppliers which she handed out. Helen from Evolve Flowers kindly travelled from Spalding to support the event. She set up a stall with a wide range of sustainable products and created a large urn arrangement and a fabulous tree installation, with the help for her husband. Everyone involved was talking to the visitors, answering questions and offering handy hints.

Visitors wrote down their questions. Flower Guild Joint Chairmen, Anthea and Pippa read them out during a Q&A session and answered by Helen and myself. The questions asked for ideas for arranging through the winter months, the expected longevity of a sustainable flower arrangement, how to change the water and how best to clean chicken wire.

NB: Note to self - appoint an official photographer for the actual event next time! taken in Chelmsford Cathedral by @evolveflowers

FRESH MOSS IN STOCK

Moss is an autumnal favourite used as a base for wreaths, topper for containers and to add texture to floral installations.

Our Norfolk moss is fresh, and sustainably harvested from well-managed sites (Forestry Commission approved), and regenerates at pace.

Historical Fact: Moss was one of the first to make the transition from water-borne algae to land plants - dinosaurs walked upon its ancestors.

We have two types in stock:
topping moss - for covering mechanics or providing a moisture layer in containers
wreath moss - used for seasonal wreaths

Check out our YouTube Product Focus video on Moss - link in bio and on slide 3

You can also head to the bio for the link to our moss collection at BritishFlowersDirect.com FYI - one bag of wreath moss will make an average of 10 x 12" wreaths.

The rosehips have arrived, fresh from our grower.
Glossy, deep orange-red, and still on their stems.

They work in autumn bouquets, church and event arrangements, and wedding flowers.

Good to know:
Stems are 40 or 45 cm and sold in quantities of 10, 30 or 50 stems.
They last well when conditioned and dry nicely if you'd like to keep them for winter.

Available now while the season lasts.
Order through www.britishflowersdirect.com, link in bio.

A look back to last week and Helen's trip to Chelmsford to join in the discussion and see demonstrations on sustainable flower arranging.

Around 140 people attended, which is great news for spreading the word about making beautiful church arrangements sustainably.

As an SCF Ambassador, this is a subject close to Helen's heart.

If you're a church flower arranger, or part of a local flower club, get in contact and arrange a demonstration on sustainable flower arranging.

You can contact her via email helen@evolveflowers.com
