A new illustration, as the Silmarillion art obsession continues: The defeat of Sauron on Tol-in-Gaurhoth by Lúthien and Huan.

Acrylics on paper - and an experiment with a vibrant, warmer color palette than usual for me. 💚🧡

This one was smaller, the figures more stylized... and I completely lost track of time while painting all those textile folds.

Dracula 🦇 the final painting, the WIP, and the sketch

Acrylic painting on paper, a piece in a series for a Dracula art zine... and my most complex illustration yet!

"The last I saw of Count Dracula was his kissing his hand to me, with a red light of triumph in his eyes, and with a smile that Judas in hell might be proud of."

(also: prints in my sh0p update yesterday!)

My not-quite-inktober project which might just be an excuse to use all my inks... (even with all the samples and some old cartridges, I'll have to get some more to reach 31 - the horror!)

I'm drawing according to a different theme each week to keep it simple. 🤎

"Huo Jiang" by Lennon Tool Bar was a surprise find at PenLetter in Seoul, where I fell in love with the colour immediately after seeing it swatched.

From under a mountain of work I can't show yet a (nearly) finished WIP emerges...
This was a refreshing colour palette to paint with! 🤍❤️🖤

Day 1 🖋️

No prompt, no plan, just a daily sketch with a different ink, and maybe some other media if it's a waterproof one.
Let's call it Ink(ish)tober. 😌

Day 1:
Wearingeul "Resurrection" in a Monami Olika <F>

I have a sample size of this ink and just filled an old empty cartridge. The ink in the cartridge ran out towards the bottom of the sketch, but I decided not to refill and just embrace the fading effect.

ink sketches inspired by summer travels 💚 it's my first time with an EF nib preppy, and I love how scribbly my lines turn out with it.
With Chuseok coming up, a lot of my sketches (and this month's snail mail print and sticker) are themed around Korean architecture and landscapes, and the fountain pen obsession just keeps escalating all over my sketchbooks.

(say hi to my grumpy cat!)

#fountainpens #fountainpensketch #inksketch #strathmore #fountainpenart an open sketchbook, with a page filled with scribbled sketches in a muted green ink. A glass dip pen (used for some of the thicker lines at the edge of the page) and a fountain pen are placed next to the page for size. The fountain pen is a Platinum Preppy in 0.2 EF by @evydraws

Watercolour first, ink second... because this ink isn't waterproof, but also because it helps me think in large shapes, shadow and light, first and details second. Not usually my strong suit!

🖋️ The ink in my Pilot 95s EF is by @wearingeul - a beautiful dark teal that builds up to a red sheen in the darkest areas, "For Whom the Bell Tolls". Tricky to capture on camera, beautiful and at the same time ominous in person.

I love this stage of each new illustration: When the first hints of an expression, of a character, appear, but there's still all the white of the paper around it.
(It's also a bit scary. So easy to mess up!)

Bringing out all my detail brushes for final highlights...
(The dress straps needed an extra steady hand. Or rather, multiple attempts.)

The last book interior illustration for FANGS FOR NOTHING by the wonderful @steffanieholmeswrites 🖤🦇 painted in the Zorn palette to suit this "vampires in a ballroom" scene.

What my sketchbooks look like lately: Composition and color sketches for new art (more often than not in watercolors), tiny ink studies of architecture, and all kinds of fountain pen experiments with shimmer inks... in the name of character designs, of course. 😌

If you saw my sketchbook summary of last month: Yes, fountain pens have taken over.

(These sketches here are for a small book cover illustration in a color palette I'm really excited about! 🩶❤️🖤 Can't wait to share the actual art WIPs.)

I always get impatient with watercolors. So to slow down, I listened to an audiobook and just kept on layering quite mindlessly... (and also went to hang up laundry while the paint was drying - my secret tip for fellow impatient artists!)

A study of "Hylas and the Nymphs" by John William Waterhouse, with the Mission Gold Pure Pigment watercolor set.
