Over the past 8 months I’ve had the joy of learning alongside many wonderful students, teachers, and specialists while perusing my M.S.ED in Literacy Studies. For my final capstone project I used arts-based research to explore culturally responsive pedagogies in schools and in communities more broadly. Here are a few of the pieces that drove my inquiry. Enjoy!

Meet Emerson Ham, a real life character introduced to me from the poetic words of Sandy Campbell.

I am excited to share that I am contributing to a wonderful project by @pickabookaday called Voices Alice. My artwork will accompany the aforementioned letter by Sandy Campbell to create a collaborative multimodal expression of writing and art. Can’t wait to share the final product! ✨

Had a lot of fun making this commissioned piece for my wonderful professor at Penn GSE. The text is pulled from Freire’s work and inspired by the following quote:

“Reading the word always precedes reading the world, and reading the word implies continually reading the world… this movement from the word to the world is always present; even the spoken word flows from our reading of the world.”
