We are up @exeteruni Forum today as part of their sustainability week.
We have a free ‘junk journalling ‘ workshop, a free lucky dip to win prizes from the scrapstore and some of our shop stock for sale.
We will be here until 4 so do swing by and say hello.

Exeter Scrapstore is delighted to be offering a brilliant Polish Pajanki making workshop with artist @element.aga
Using scrapstore materials participants will make a traditional Polish Pajanki decoration.
On Tuesday 27th of October from 10.30 until 1pm at Newtown Community Centre
The workshop is designed for families and suitable for children aged 6+ with their accompanying adult.

Far more than decoration, Pajanki resemble spider webs and traditionally believed to hold protective powers. Aga will help you to create beautiful ornaments that have hung from ceilings of polish peasant cottages for centuries.

Polish folk art is a rich regionally diverse tradition rooted in rites and cermonies of polish rural life, pre-christian Slavic beliefs and christian practices. It flourished among peasants as functional decoration, protection against misfortune ands expression of identity. Often using readily available materials- straw, wood, clay, wool and feathers- and created collectively by women dutring seasonal gatherings.

Aga Eden is a community artist and workshop facilitator based in Devon. She creates participatory projects exploring folklore, cultural traditions and belonging through making, including founding All Souls’ Day events and leading textile workshops for Quirk Theatre’s YETI project at RAMM.

We had a busy day yesterday with lots of new customers. It is so lovely to hear all their positive comments both in person and on social media.

Our Massive card-making, scrapbooking and junk journaling Sale starts tomorrow at 11.
We need to clear some space so we have a range of cutting machines, a pile of stickers, a mountain of glitter and embossing powder, loads of ink stamps and lots of other bits and bobs. All at bargain prices - it’d be silly not to pop in this weekend!

Open from 11 until 5 on Thursday & Friday and from 11 until 3 on Saturday.

Today Kaia from @phantomthreadsproject joined us to bring and assist with hanging the beautiful Kimono made @makesouthwest by their ‘Weave Wednesday’ group.
Big thanks to @stuartcrewes who helped in the process of the kimono finding us as a home and to @needlebuilt (Paul) for a smooth install.
The kimono looks amazing in the warehouse and will inspire crafters for years to come.
Pop in and have a look, it is stunning.

Today we had the pleasure of installing the @makesouthwest “weave wednesday kimono” (as seen in Phantom Threads) in its new permanent home at @exeterscrapstore ! We are so incredibly glad that it has come to find a home in such a wonderful place, and hope that it continues to inspire crafters that visit! A big massive thank you to Gaby, Caroline, Paul and @stuartcrewes for making this happen - we couldn’t have done it without you! Pająki Workshop

27 October | Scrapstore Exeter

Join me for a day of making traditional Polish pająki — the protective ceiling ornaments once crafted by women in rural cottages.
These web-like forms were believed to guard the home against evil spirits and misfortune, while promising abundance and happiness. Straw itself carried protective power, linking the ornament to the land and the harvest cycle.
This time we use colourful recycled plastic straws from Scrapstore Exeter, giving discarded materials new life while honouring an old folk tradition.
Come create your own pająk.
