Today we had the pleasure of installing the @makesouthwest “weave wednesday kimono” (as seen in Phantom Threads) in its new permanent home at @exeterscrapstore ! We are so incredibly glad that it has come to find a home in such a wonderful place, and hope that it continues to inspire crafters that visit! A big massive thank you to Gaby, Caroline, Paul and @stuartcrewes for making this happen - we couldn’t have done it without you! Please pop by the Exeter scrapstore next time you’re in town and take a peek (and maybe get some crafty bits while you’re there! ;)) #exeterscrapstore

Pająki Workshop

27 October | Scrapstore Exeter

Join me for a day of making traditional Polish pająki — the protective ceiling ornaments once crafted by women in rural cottages.
These web-like forms were believed to guard the home against evil spirits and misfortune, while promising abundance and happiness. Straw itself carried protective power, linking the ornament to the land and the harvest cycle.
This time we use colourful recycled plastic straws from Scrapstore Exeter, giving discarded materials new life while honouring an old folk tradition.
Come create your own pająk.

I always try to find bits and pieces we can re-use and recycle. It might mean some things have been used before and they’re not quite perfect (worn a blank canvas apron or seen the table cloth?) I’m happy to say that minimal non-recyclable waste is created from a workshop. 👐🏻🙌🏼

The Fabric of Home
Today was our drop-in workshop at RAMM, making colourful fabric flags for Quirk Theatre’s YETI.

YETI is Quirk Theatre’s festive family show, running at Exeter Phoenix from 13–27 December 2026.

It was such a lovely, busy day — lots of people stopping by, choosing fabrics, colours and textures, and creating their own little pieces of home.
All the fabric for our flags were sourced from @exeterscrapstore We love to giving a new life to old materials.

All participants also helped with elements of the costume for the Yeti and contributed to making parts of the set — it felt so special to see everyone becoming part of the world of the show as it is being created.
Thank you @quirktheatre team for having me ❤️

If you’re in a position to help families supported by @refugeesupportdevon and @exeterfoodbank experience the joy and magic of live theatre, please consider making a donation alongside your YETI ticket purchase.

The house looks like a playgroup combined with a recycling centre. I have everything out from wire cutters to interfacing, elastic to fabric paint. Time for a cherry bakewell 😂 🍒 #cherrybakewell #makingamess #homemadecostume #burlylife #somethingoutofnothing

This is my Memento box drying ready for the coloured slip decoration. Then when it's bisquefired it will have a transparent glaze applied.
We shall make these during the 6 week handbuilding for beginners course starting mid September at Alphington community pottery.

Woo hooo art hoppers is back for one day only as part of The Colour Lab at Taunton Brewhouse. All my hoppers have grown up and are still creating wonderful art so it’s time to meet some new ones!

This is a session for preschoolers ideally aged 2+ who like trying new art techniques and finding out about famous artists. For this special session we will start with a chat about Paul Klee and his amazing artwork Fish Magic. We will learn a bit about colour and then try some new ways of making art together. We use proper art materials and I love using scrap. On the same day the @exeterscrapstore will be set up in the foyer so you can stock up on more materials to take home after. They are ace!

Do you know a little artist who would love to try this session? Tickets can be booked on the Taunton Brewhouse website www.tauntonbrewhouse.co.uk
