Check out the stunning new mural at 13th & Fir created by artist Adden Joule (@existential.circus)! The mural is located directly across from King County Archives and the location of 206 Zulu’s Off the Wall graffiti art competition. Adden was selected from 72 applicants by an art advisory committee made up of community members and partners. Last fall, the artist visited Seattle to engage in inspiration sessions with the 13th & Fir community to inform the final mural. The mural features the portrait of an elder, a figure who represents both native and immigrant lineage and the quiet strength of a community grandparent. She embodies memory, care, and continuity, the keeper of stories that bridge generations. While the opposite side of the building features portraits of children and future possibility, this wall holds the grounding presence of ancestry, wisdom, and lived experience. The figure holds a local cherry blossom branch, alongside subtle references to other medicinal herbs long used by lineages within the PNW and this neighborhood and across cultures for healing, protection, and resilience. The surrounding flora draws from PNW and Central District plant life, grounding the portrait in place and honoring the land that continues to shape the community. The crow is a spiritual messenger and storyteller, long regarded as communicators between worlds and symbols of intelligence, survival, and adaptability. Rather than a singular presence, the imagery suggests a broader lineage and community of crows, echoing the idea of multiple generations living side by side. Their presence reflects the role of elders as spiritual guides and cultural anchors, carrying wisdom forward while remaining deeply connected to both urban life and the natural world. This mural was funded through a grant from the Seattle Office of Planning & Community Development (@seattleopcd) through the Equitable Development Initiative Program. taken in Yesler Terrace, Seattle by @existential.circus

We're excited to announce @existential.circus as the selected artist for the Climate Equity Keystone mural at @tantralake! Tantra Lake residents plus Street Wise Arts and @boulderhousingpartners (BHP) staff reviewed applications and selected Adden Joule to install a keystone mural at the BHP property. This project aims to: ✨️ Foster environmental stewardship, sustainability, and community through public art. ✨️ Transform one of the community's most visible buildings into an inspiring landmark inspired by local environment and community dreams for the future. "My work is rooted in the natural world," says Adden. "I paint flora and fauna as a way of honoring the living systems we belong to, the plants, pollinators, and creatures that sustain us and share our neighborhoods. This mural initiative has a purpose that goes beyond aesthetics. I'm most excited about engaging with this community and creating a genuine dialogue between the land, the mural, and the people who call this place home." Adden is a full-time muralist, sculptor, and jeweler based in Broomfield, Colorado. His mural practice is rooted in honoring native wildlife and local ecology, blending realism and graphic surrealism with abstract geometric elements to create visually striking and conceptually layered works. His art speaks across cultures, generations, and communities, with each project thoughtfully shaped by the people, place, and environment it inhabits. Through a balance of craftsmanship, symbolism, and collaboration, Adden strives to create enduring public works that resonate both locally and globally. This mural is part of a larger project at Tantra Lake driven by the community to address climate adaptability, resilience and food justice. Key partners include Street Wise Arts, Boulder Housing Partners, PLAY Boulder Foundation, PLAY Boulder Tree Trust, Cool Boulder, FLOWS, and Butterfly Pavilion. Funding for this mural project is provided in part by the Boulder County Climate Equity Fund. Meet the second artist behind one of the new murals coming to 13th & Fir, Adden!      Adden Joule is a full-time muralist and street artist based in Denver, Colorado. Since 2016 he has worked professionally across public walls internationally, creating large scale murals throughout Europe, Indonesia, Central and South America, and across the United States. He is the founder of Project Street Gold, an internationally recognized brand producing limited edition cast metal works in collaboration with world renowned muralists and graffiti writers.    Here’s a statement from the artist:  “I am deeply drawn to the 13th and Fir project because of its roots in graffiti and aerosol culture, its commitment to affordable housing, and its dedication to reflecting the authentic voices of a richly layered community. The legacy of 206 Zulu’s Off the Wall event at this very site speaks directly to the tradition I have built my practice within, and the opportunity to continue that legacy on the exterior of a building designed to keep low income families rooted in Seattle feels both meaningful and timely.  What excites me most is the intersection of community, culture, and place this project represents. The Central District, Yesler Terrace, and the Chinatown International District each carry distinct and profound histories, and the opportunity to create work that honors that diversity while remaining visually bold and forward thinking is exactly the kind of challenge I seek. My practice is built on listening deeply to communities, translating their values into large scale imagery that feels specific, celebratory, and enduring. This project offers the opportunity to do exactly that, creating work that serves the residents of 13th and Fir and the surrounding neighborhood for generations to come.”  AJ’s mural will be installed directly across from King County Archives and the location of 206 Zulu’s Off the Wall graffiti art competition. We are so excited to share the finished mural with you this summer! taken in Seattle Chinatown-International District by @existential.circus
