The last red squirrels died out on Exmoor in the late 1960’s due to the Squirrel Pox Virus carried by the introduced North American Eastern Grey Squirrel (which is immune to the disease). Do you remember seeing a Red Squirrel on or around Exmoor? Share your memories with us? by @exmoornp

Just two weeks to go until the tenth Exmoor Dark Skies Festival
Friday 16 October to Sunday 1 November 2026

More than 70 events including the return of the popular Space Odyssey planetarium, this year in Minehead and Lynton, and a special live theatre experience 'Wonders of Our Universe' with the @the.average.scientist as a special event for the 10th festival.

Every year the Exmoor National Park Rangers help out on the brilliant Exmoor Youth challenge organised and supported by Exmoor Rotary Club We are delighted to hear that this year's event, as well as enabling over 500 children from 10 to 18 years old to get to know Exmoor, has raised £7,933 for @childrenshospicesw by @exmoornp

So proud of our Young Rangers! They teamed up with Plastic Free Exmoor for an extreme Beach Clean at Glenthorne Beach.
A large amount of ocean debris that had been left behind by previous visitors in one of the ruined buildings above the beach.
Nathan, one of the Exmoor National Park Rangers helped clear the haul
Among the items recovered were:
🧵 Enough fishing line, netting and ropes to fill a sack
🧴 44 plastic bottles
🛢️ 3 large plastic drums
📦 8 food crates
🗑️ 1 food waste bin
🛟 An inflatable rubber ring
🏖️ An inflatable beach ball
🍌 An inflatable banana!
Numerous lengths strips of tyre rubber used to secure lobster pots
