Parents, worried about weaning?

I have to remind parents of this all the time especially if they have been on a long journey getting pregnant. Mums especially often feel guilty for not loving pregnancy…I’ve even heard of family saying - well you wanted this! 😳 Yes your baby is absolutely wanted but some of those hideous pregnancy symptoms are not! Same with the rollercoaster of parenting! Be kind to yourself x by @expectingantenatalclasses

As a midwife of over 20 years I’ve never known birth approached the way it has been over the last 3-4 years.

Please understand I’ve worked with some amazing doctors in my career but how is it now accepted to use coercive and damaging language this way?

Since when has something so physiological been approached like it’s so dangerous?! When doctors qualify they sign a hypocritic oath to do no harm. Scaremongering is doing a LOT of harm. by @expectingantenatalclasses

Finally, no. 11 is avoid calpol - teething doesn’t cause a temperature (that indicates something else is going on). If we reach for medicine at every sign of discomfort, we subtly teach our children (and ourselves) that pills are the first solution (in this case, to normal developmental experiences). relational.

Yes it’s Baby Loss Awareness Week which is an important thing to mark but I’m determined to talk about this topic throughout the year. It shouldn’t be a taboo. It affects at least 1:4 pregnancies. Your friends, neighbours, cousins may have had a miscarriage you never knew about. Bring up the topic and you’ll be amazed how many people have struggled in silence. ...If we haven’t met yet - I’m Freya - midwife for over 20 years. I’ve walked alongside over 10,000 parents-to-be, giving them confidence and clarity as they navigate pregnancy and parenting. I’ve also walked alongside so many parents as they have lost their babies. Incredibly tragic and sadly a reality. by @expectingantenatalclasses
