POSTS STORIES REELS

Step into legacy, walk through memory.

From now till May 11th, 2025, immerse yourself in The Empire Within – Sand Memories at @lafa_foundation , a stirring exhibition curated by @zahra_faye__ .

Rooted in the power and spirit of West African heritage, this journey reimagines empire—not only through rulers like Mansa Musa, but through trade, movement, intellect, and sacred purpose. Through performance, photography, and materials like cloth, sand, and thread, history is not just remembered—it is reawakened.

This is not just a tribute, but a reclaiming. A reminder that history is not simply inherited—it is chosen.

I came across this stunning piece by @annanaffotey at the @gallery1957 in Accra, and I must say, it stopped me in my tracks. The bold interplay of colors - especially the striking green background against the dark, textured face of the subject - is nothing short of mesmerizing.

What truly captivates is the haunting gaze of the figure; those piercing eyes seem to hold untold stories, drawing you in and daring you to imagine the world from their perspective. The raw, almost sculptural texture of the brushstrokes adds a layer of depth that makes the piece feel alive, as though it’s breathing and speaking directly to you.

This is more than just a painting; it’s an emotional experience—a celebration of individuality, identity, and unspoken narratives. It’s the kind of art that lingers in your mind long after you’ve seen it, and I feel privileged to have encountered it in such a remarkable space.
