The expression-less side kind of reminds me of Wednesday from Addams Family, which is certainly amusing…but that’s not the vibe of this high-energy dance number from @justintimebway ! Haha When I saw this viral Broadway choreography trending, I knew I had to try it out. BUT I went a little further than that and decided to make this into an… *drumroll* 🥁

✨ “Express Yourself Challenge”! ✨

I’ve been thinking up ways to make this Community page a bit more interactive and foster an environment of artists who shamelessly express themselves! So with that in mind, I’m challenging 10 of my performing artist friends to post a video dancing to this choreo and then tag 5 people (non-dancers included) to do the same! 🕺🏾

I’ve grown to really love Social Media.

Mostly as a creative outlet, as well as a way to stay inspired by fellow artists and connected to long-distance family and friends.

But recently I’m spending a little more time scrolling than I’m comfortable with. So I think I just need a reset while I figure out again how to have more boundaries around my time usage.

I’ve taken 3 years off and then 10 months off in the past, but this time I’m thinking just a 30 day break should be enough. We’ll see!

It’s been SO lovely sharing with you all and enjoying what you choose to share on here! I’ll certainly miss it! But looking forward to coming back sooon! 🧡 taken in Santa Cruz, California by @expressions.coaching

Update: HE GOT THE PART! 🙌🏾

Lots of auditions for my students this week!

And while working on audition prep with them, I’m reminded that one of the most important
foundations for an incredible performance is CONFIDENCE! Being able to make clear choices, connect with the audience, and truly embody your character all requires trusting yourself and believing in your abilities.

As performing artists, many of us focus on the 2% of insecurity we have or the possibilities of “what might go wrong” in an audition…well I say, why not instead focus on all that you’re amazing at and bring to the table? Why not think of the things that could go exceedingly RIGHT? If we’re able to make up imaginary bad scenarios in our mind, then why not keep our thoughts stayed on the BEST CASE SCENARIO and walk in it as though it’s going to happen. Why not?! 🧡

Our mindset can make or break an audition and set us up for failure or success. Choosing confidence doesn’t mean that you think you’re altogether flawless…it means that you refuse to focus on the flaws.

This student of mine, Grayson, is a FORCE when he allows himself to be. Most of my students are. But what blocks their ✨ MAGIC ✨ is holding back and not giving themselves permission to showcase their strengths. Confidence is the key to unlocking that!

And I’m honored to help them kick down that door! 🚪

Same words, different story! 🎭

Can we turn identical lyrics into a totally different meaning using our body + facial expression? Let’s test it out!!

I’m sure you’ve heard that 93% of human communication is non-verbal, so that means as actors and storytellers there’s only so far that our voice alone can carry us towards accurately conveying a certain emotion. Body language and facial expression plays a much bigger role in expressing ourselves emotionally. This silly lil reel is a fun way of showcasing that!
