Hi! My name is Exequiel Roman. If we ever meet, you can call me Jay because I can barely pronounce that name.
I'm of Filipino descent and was born and raised in Southern California.

Name Origin: I am Exequiel Roman III. My parents thought they could call me Jay Jay for Junior's Junior. One of the Jays dropped off around late high school.

I've once been called Executioner during roll call.

Some of my favorite things to do:

Eat - Best thing I've ever eaten was some steak in Kobe, Japan. Closely followed by White Curry with Brisket Burnt Ends at Eem in Portland, OR.

Build Gunpla - I haven't built anything in a while though.

Travel - Going to Japan in November

Cook - I like making stir fry. That picture of me is actually me cutting up sugar cane for elephants in Thailand.

Jiu-Jitsu - I've been doing martial arts since I was 4. The past 16 years I've been doing jiujitsu where I'm currently a brown belt.

These are some of my favorite books:

Golden Son by Pierce Brown
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
High Fidelity by Nick Hornby
Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk
The Samurai's Tale by Erik Christian Haugaard

These are some of my favorite movies:

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Project Hail Mary
Boondock Saints
The Crow
Blow

These are some of my favorite video games:

Frostpunk

Every book you love fits on this model 📚

And they're proportioned by Mind, Body, and Soul.

Soul is the child-like creator in all of us 🎨. Legends and Lattes or LOTR are prime examples.

Mind is what makes us think, learn, and grow 🧠. These are your philosophies and classics.

Body is how we feel, whether it be fear, fun, or spice 🌶.

Every book has a dash of each, but tend to dominate two of the three.

The Body/Soul books are your romantacies such as ACOTAR, or power driven fantasy like Red Rising 🐉

The Soul/Mind books are the historical fantasies like Bernard Cornwell, urban fantasy, and your steam/cyberpunk ⚔️

Mind/Body are your true crime books and thrillers. Crime and Punishment being an excellent example of both 🔪

Save this to pick your next mood read 📖

If you're a writer, feel free to save this model to map out your WIP and its comps 🔖

Do you agree with these placements? Where would you put your current read?

I ordered this on 8/26 and it got delayed three times.

I had ordered a backup copy from Pango, they sent me Dark Age by accident.

We'll see if it actually shows up on Wednesday. Stay tuned! by @exwrites

Recursion by Blake Crouch
⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2

Recursion follows Barry and Helena as they travel through alternate timelines to save the world. Crouch explores themes of love, loss, and the butterfly effect (sans Ashton Kutcher.)

I compared this book to the sciency feel of Michael Crichton's Timeline and Andy Weir's Project Hail Mary along with the themes from The Butterfly Effect.

I liked the mind trip of exploring different memories and timelines in order to change the present, the real sense of fatigue from the characters, and that the characters grow like real people. Barry kind of heals throughout the book.

I did feel that Barry just kind of abandoned his family and some of the attempts on fixing the timelines dragged on.

I would definitely recommend this read.

Cassius: "Did they let you keep it? Or is everything proportional?"
Darrow: "If you really want to know... you should ask your mother."
