Some nights you feel 60 years of organizing in one room. September 19th was that night.
The embraces that lasted a little longer. The DJ who kept us moving. The voices that rose from the stage, and the elders who reminded us whose shoulders we stand on. Tables lit by sunflowers, signs that still carry our demands, and a room full of people who came because Sunset Park is not for sale and never will be.
This is what 60 Years In Motion looks like: a community that organizes, celebrates, and keeps going together. Gracias a cada persona que estuvo presente. Ustedes son el movimiento.
The work continues, and so do we.
Keep the momentum going: link in bio.

In the climate justice movement, we believe in fighting the bad, building the good , moving the money to the frontline and changing the rules. Our principles are grounded in the ancestral traditions passed down from our ancestors. There will always be villains among us, often they look just like us and come wearing a mask. It takes courage and the deep belief that love will prevail. It takes faith🤎🍃 by @eyeampierre

Sharpening Our Arrowheads with Indigenous Lifeways

Friday, September 25, 2026 | 2-5pm ET | UPROSE, 462 36th St, Brooklyn, NY 11232

We are inviting our Indigenous brothers, sisters and allies to a day of Sharpening Our Arrowheads in Brooklyn. This Indigenous Lifeways led event will incorporate neuro-decolonization and community resistance practices. We acknowledge that during sacred celestial times such as the Fall Equinox it is an inherent time for us to gather as a community.

We intend to walk away realigned in our minds, body and spirit as we acknowledge the strength of our ancestral intelligence. As guardian warriors, we offer a day of rest, recovery and re-sharpening of our arrowheads.

Frontline Communities are Leading the Way

Beyond Greenwashing: Centering Justice, Democracy, and Resiliency through Community Climate Solutions

Climate Justice Alliance (CJA) will be on the ground in so-called New York on Lenape land for Climate Week NYC September 19-27, 2026. We’ll fight the bad, build the new, reclaim our breath, our lands and our future. Local NYC environmental justice and climate justice communities are leading with real climate solutions and we’re excited to celebrate them, including a Brooklyn community’s recently launched community-owned solar array! We’ll kick things off with them at UPROSE’s 60th anniversary celebration on September 19th.

During the rest of the week, CJA, our members, and partners will focus on the important work of communities who are organizing against extractive and harmful industries and infrastructure, including AI data centers and oil and gas expansion, while simultaneously creating the world we need though proven climate solutions built by those most impacted by the climate crisis. These grassroots community climate solutions can be replicated and scaled and are already transforming neighborhoods, local governments, and municipal and state policy.

From local resiliency hubs and neighbor-to-neighbor aid networks providing hurricane preparation and critical health services for community members during and after the storms, to community-run farms guaranteeing healthy food and sustainable food systems to impacted families, to community-owned wind and solar farms advancing a Just Transition that safeguards public health and lowers bills; democratic grassroots climate solutions are tried and true.

Join us to learn why we believe investment in democratic, grassroots climate solutions is our collective silver bullet.

For more information and a snapshot of some of the events that CJA member groups will be post off during Climate Week: https://climatejusticealliance.org/climateweek2026/

Found in the @ny1 archives: late 1990s, Elizabeth Yeampierre @eyeampierre telling the DOT what Sunset Park would no longer accept.

175,000 vehicles a day. A community demanding a say in what is acceptable where they live!
60 years in motion, leading every fight with the same fire.🔥

Dress code for our Gala: Pick Your Favorite Decade. 🌻🪩✨
Six decades of UPROSE means six decades of style — bold, unapologetic, ghetto chic and proud of it.
From ‘60s Afrocentric power dressing to ‘70s disco flash, ‘80s hip hop sharpness, ‘90s ghetto fabulous, 2010s indie sleaze, and today’s genderless, DIY, wear-your-passions energy — pick the era that speaks to you and show up in it.

Need pieces? Every look in our 60th Anniversary Lookbook is sourced from LA THRIF-TERÍA, 462 36th St — because sixty years of movement building runs on slow fashion too. Thank you @yurunnin for this beautiful lookbook 🪩⭐️

See you September 19 at BRIC. Dress loud. Dress like the decade that made you. Link in bio for tickets. 🎟️

Puerto Rico is in the middle of a severe drought. Hundreds of thousands of people are living under rotating water shutoffs.
SOMOS must pivot and rethink how people and resources will be repurposed in solidarity with the demands of those impacted by a colonial government that wants the land and not the people. 🇵🇷

Dolly Parton was an incredibly humble beautiful light filled talented human- she taught us how to turn pain into song and that adorning ourselves being the confines of the expected, is a celebration of self.
Grateful for how she showed up for all of us😢😔🍃 by @eyeampierre

Last week, we gathered with @julioanta @galabklyn and our Executive Director @eyeampierre for a night of story and struggle: Beast of Borikén.

Special shoutout to @taylorcobooks for co hosting with us and standing with Puerto Rico during this fight.

The conversation moved from the pages of the graphic novel to the real fight it’s rooted in — the resistance to ESCENCIA’s plan to privatize Cabo Rojo’s coastline.

Relive the night. 🎥 Thank you to all the wonderful people who attended and make the evening special 🌻
