Today and every day, we honor the original caretakers of this land, and the Indigenous peoples still protecting it. 🌽 Before there were highways, power plants or a waterfront to fight over, the Lenape tended these shores, waters and forests as relatives, not resources. That relationship never ended, and neither did their presence. This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we lift up rematriation: the Indigenous women-led work of returning land, water, seeds and knowledge to the people who have always cared for them. It asks more of us than acknowledgment. It asks us to listen, to follow Indigenous leadership, and to live in right relationship with the earth. For 60 years, the wisdom of our grandmothers and our Taíno, African and Indigenous roots has guided how UPROSE organizes in Sunset Park. We fight for this land the way our ancestors taught us: with care, with community, and with the next seven generations in mind. #indigenousdayeveryday #IndigenousPeoplesDay #DíaDeLosPueblosIndígenas #Rematriation #Lenapehoking

@uprosebrooklyn has been apart of life since I was a teen. Black Mesa Water Coalition invited me to a youth climate justice conference in Brooklyn and UPROSE was hosting! I was in the same plane as André 3000 when I flew into NYC. That was my sign that this trip was going to be memorable. Shout out to the lake Nikki Alex, for being my chaperone! From the moment I met @eyeampierre, I felt like I was being reunited with Family. Her words, her story, her passion, and love from mother Earth reminded me so much of my own family. One of those nights we had dinner, and I felt so honored to be sitting at the same table as her. Nearly 20 years later, not only was @indigenouslifeways invited to celebrate UPROSE 60th anniversary I also got to sit at Table 1. The same table @eyeampierre was sitting at. It was a full circle moment. It makes my heart so happy to know the holy people have place such beautiful and strong women in my life. @eyeampierre thank you so much for your continued support and dedicating your life to mother earth's survival. I deeply admire and appreciate all of the things that you have done for the Climate Justice Movement.

Some nights you feel 60 years of organizing in one room. September 19 was that night. 🌻 The embraces that lasted a little longer. The DJ who kept us moving. The voices that rose from the stage, and the elders who reminded us whose shoulders we stand on. Tables lit by sunflowers, signs that still carry our demands, and a room full of people who came because Sunset Park is not for sale and never will be. This is what 60 Years In Motion looks like: a community that organizes, celebrates, and keeps going together. Gracias a cada persona que estuvo presente. Ustedes son el movimiento. The work continues, and so do we. Keep the momentum going: link in bio. Photo Credits 📸 : @crybabycowb0y #60YearsInMotion #UPROSE #SunsetPark #ClimateJustice #JustTransition
