My running has been inconsistent since Leadville as I strove to find my mojo. Think I'm starting to find it a bit. Jumping into races with the Achilles Pike's Peak crew certainly helps!
Had a fun time at Fall Series 2 with the Achilles Pike's Peak crew.
Thank you @sam.calello for guiding this morning! Looking forward to the next one on some more technical trail in a couple weeks!
#GoAchilles #TrailRunning #FindingTheMojo #PikesPeakRoadRunners Four runners standing together on grass in a park, posing for a race photo.

All four are wearing bright neon yellow Achilles International shirts and race bibs from “Pikes Peak Road Runners.” The two people in the middle and the person on the right have the word “GUIDE” in large letters on their shirts.

From left to right:
First runner has light skin, short dark hair, and dark sunglasses. They wear a sleeveless neon shirt, black shorts, a watch on the left wrist, and gray running shoes with white soles. They are holding a dark drink bottle at their side.

Second runner has light skin and light blond hair swept back. They wear the same neon shirt marked “GUIDE,” gray shorts, turquoise running shoes, and a watch on the left wrist. They are holding a small blue-and-white paper cup. Their left arm is around the shoulder of the person next to them.

Third runner has light skin and very short light hair. They wear the neon shirt (no visible “GUIDE” text), black shorts, orange running shoes, and a watch on the left wrist. A small device or pouch is clipped at their waist. Their right arm rests on the shoulder of the person to their right.

Fourth runner has light skin and short blond hair. They wear a neon “GUIDE” shirt, red running shorts with a large Superman “S” logo on the left leg, a red hydration-style vest, and colorful Superman-themed knee-high socks. A black knee sleeve is on the left leg, and they wear black and orange running shoes. They also have a dark headband with a Superman logo and dark sunglasses. They are smiling broadly and making a peace sign with the right hand while holding a white cup in the left.

In the background, there are trees with green and some yellow leaves, a few people, and a red event tent. The sky is mostly cloudy with some blue patches. taken in Colorado Springs, Colorado by @eyeronkyle

28 years ago today, my right eye was removed, leaving me totally blind.

Those 28 years haven’t been easy, but they sure have been fulfilling.

From rock climbing, mountaineering, and skiing to wrestling through high school and college. From being jobless and not knowing what to do with my life, to finding my way to endurance sports. From my first triathlon in 2015 to standing on the starting line of the Paralympic Games — twice.

And the story keeps getting better.

In 2021, I published my first book, sharing the full story of losing my sight (find it through the link in my bio or on Audible). I’ve built a career sharing my story from stages around the world, and these days I’m the Manager of National Partnerships at USA Triathlon, helping grow the sport that’s given me so much.

Lately, I’ve fallen in love with trail running, which handed me a DNF at the 2026 Leadville Trail 100 @leadvilleraceseries . I’m hoping the lottery gives me another shot in 2027, because I’m not done with that finish line.

28 years after losing my sight, I’m still finding new mountains to climb, new challenges to chase, and new ways to push my limits.

And I mean it when I say the best chapters are still ahead!

Thank you to everyone who makes this adventurous life possible! @bubbaburger @durata_training @usatriathlon @teamusa @exactlywhattosay and @walnutstreetpublishing , just to name a few.

To my friends, family, teammates, and everyone who’s supported me along the way: thank you from the bottom of my heart.

What’s the hardest thing life has handed you — and what did it give you in return? Tell me in the comments. I read every single one. 👇

Today’s keynote speaker, Kyle Coon (@eyeronkyle), reminded us that sometimes you don’t need to see the whole path ahead. You just need the next step. As a #RetinoblastomaSurvivor and Paralympian, Kyle shared a powerful perspective on moving forward when you can’t know exactly what lies ahead.

Thank you, Kyle, for sharing your story with #OneRbWorld.

#Retinoblastoma #Paralympian #OneRbWorld #QuoteOfTheDay Graphic featuring keynote speaker Kyle Coon, a retinoblastoma survivor and Paralympian, speaking at a podium. Text reads: “I don’t get to look down a trail and see how far it goes. Sometimes, all I know is what’s right in front of me. And you know what? That’s enough. One step at a time. That’s how you climb a mountain.” by @eyeronkyle

It’s an honor to keynote Lighthouse Central Florida’s Raising Our Sights Breakfast! Tomorrow, September 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Winter Park Events Center. Who’s going to be there? Not registered? There’s still time if you’d like to come support an incredible organization! Event flyer with a blue and purple gradient background. In the bottom right, Kyle is running; he is wearing dark wraparound sunglasses and a sleeveless triathlon suit that is mostly dark blue with white straps. The suit has text on the chest that reads “Roka” above “COON” above “USA.” His race number, “623,” is marked on his upper left arm. His skin appears slightly shiny, as if from sweat, and he is captured mid-stride with one hand partially clenched and the other relaxed.

White and light blue text on the flyer reads:

Top left:
“LIGHTHOUSE
CENTRAL FLORIDA”
To the right of this logo:
“RAISING
our SIGHTS”

Top right:
“September 10, 2026
8:30 to 10:00 a.m.
Winter Park Events Center”

In the center, inside a rounded rectangle:
“RSVP: LighthouseCFL.org/RaisingOurSights”

Lower left:
“Keynote
Speaker:
Kyle Coon”

Near the runner, in smaller white text:
“His story of resilience
and triumph will
inspire you to raise
your own sights.” taken in Winter Park Events Center by @eyeronkyle

Less than six days from taking on Leadville, figured this was a perfect time to spend a bit more time up high on Pike's Peak. Thank you @tavalodge for always inviting me to join in on the adventures!

There's something about a nice long day on feet where the halfway point is the summit of a peak. Great day out with Sam and Brandon on Mt Rosa! The countdown to Leadville continues!

After more than 20hrs of technical mountain trail running, hiking, and questioning/analyzing my sanity, I finished the Silverheels 50 mile run!
It would not have been a success though without one heck of a rockstar crew of guides. Thank you Brandon Stapanowich, Raymond Bailey, Kelsey Sandness, and Ivan Schwendt for all of your support this weekend! Thank you for being my eyes, and always encouraging me. I wasn't always a pleasant person to run with and I wanted to quit more than a few times, but you all kept me going!
Big shout out and thank you to Human Potential Running Series for creating such a challenging course that tests the limits of all adventure seeking athletes. Thank you to all the volunteers who ran the aid stations and kept all the runners fed, hydrated, and moving forward!
looking forward to the next trail and mountain adventure!

Fourth of July has always been special in my family. We don't take our freedoms for granted. And I wasn't sure a better way to celebrate than getting out for an epic mountainous run with two amazing trailrunners who will be critical to success in Leadville in just six weeks! Kelsey of course made Madi do all the hard guiding sections on her first ever time guiding 🤣🇺🇸
Now time to refuel with classic American Birthday cuisine... Bubba Burgers! 🍔
