Last Friday was one of those moments that brought me real fulfillment. I was afforded the opportunity to be the commencement speaker at Clinton Grace Christian High School.

I didn’t necessarily speak on a specific subject. Instead, I posed a question for the graduates to consider: What if I told you there is a world of opportunity and a life God has for you that would exceed your expectations, but in order to receive it, there are certain things you need to have in place?

Those four things are:

Keep God First - I reminded the graduates that life will present not only obstacles, but also temptations that may seem appealing while leading them down the wrong path. That’s why it’s so important to seek Him first.

Be Open to God Redirecting Your Path - Surrendering what we had in mind and being open to God's direction is one of the most pivotal things we can do.

Learn From Your Lessons - I don’t believe in losses when there is wisdom to be gained. Every experience can teach us something valuable that we can apply to future situations.

Dream Big and Have Audacious Faith - In a world where it’s easy to settle for the norm, why not go after all that God has for you, even if it costs you comfort?

We’re in a time where the youth need us more than ever. Let’s carry our own weight and do our part to pour into the next generation. by @ez.talks

I never imagined in a million years that the little boy you see here—struggling to get his words out, stuttering badly as a child—would one day be used by God to use that very same voice to help win souls for the Kingdom, and be called to lead as the Young Adult Director at the church @fbcglenarden and young adult ministry I grew up in.

Oftentimes, the very thing you call a deficiency is the exact thing the Lord will use to propel you into your destiny. The formula is simple:

Surrender.
Obey.
Trust.

Major shoutout to my brother @iamjoshuakjenkins . I’m truly honored and humbled to continue what the Lord has already done through you, and to build on the foundation you’ve laid to reach even more young adults. You’ve built an incredible ministry, and I have the utmost respect and admiration for how you’ve faithfully led us over the past 11 years. I publicly honor you for that, and for entrusting me with the responsibility to carry the vision forward as your successor.

I was extremely grateful to celebrate and honor the scholars at Friendship Woodridge Middle School and serve as their keynote speaker for the National Junior Honor Society Induction.

Huge shoutout to my sis @basiathabiblenerd for thinking of me for this great opportunity 🙏🏽

Whenever I’m afforded the opportunity to speak to any group of people, I’m always intentional about making sure the message connects to them right where they are — but also challenges them to strive for that next level.

A few key lessons I shared were:

1. Leaders Lead From the Front
- I wanted the scholars to know they’re going to trailblaze paths and be the first to do many things among their peer group — and to not be afraid to be different.

2. Control Your Character
- There aren’t many things we have control over in life, but how we treat people matters. Being a person of integrity can take you further than you could ever imagine.

3. Run Your Own Race
- Stay focused on the path that’s been set before you. We live in a time where it’s easy to look around and compare, but comparison is the thief of joy.

4. Serve Someone Else / Give Back to the Community
- It’s easy to have success and only focus on yourself, but it takes time, effort, and sacrifice to give back to others.

Lastly — all in all, I’d like to think that yesterday, seeds were planted and that these scholars are now better equipped to lead with purpose.

As I told them, they’re not the generation of next… they’re the generation of NOW.

Whenever I see someone with a large platform or following, I always wonder what it cost them. It’s easy to admire the glory, but I’m more intrigued by the story, what it really took for them to get there. by @ez.talks
