Trine Søndergaard Stasis II / Interior #12 poster measuring 70×100 cm.

In the Interior series Søndergaard repeatedly visited the rooms of uninhabited Danish manors in winter. When she first arrived, the buildings had been abandoned for over half a century. They were like an empty shell of the past, with nothing to show that the rooms had ever been lived in.

By looking down I see up. By looking up I see down by Nicolai Howalt.

Capturing invisible rays of light, ashes of human cremation, and the volatile reactions of primary substances on metals, melding aesthetic techniques and methods with those of the natural sciences, this book presents a rare collection of Howalt’s explorations into vulnerability, exposure and change.

A Room inside by Trine Søndergaard was chosen as one of the Books of the year by the Danish Association of Bookcraft in 2017.

Everyone carries an empty room inside,” Franz Kafka wrote in his diary. We all carry something invisible that no one else fully understands. Perhaps even we ourselves do not. Emphasising a private space is a typical practice of Danish camera based visual artist Trine Søndergaard (1972), acclaimed for her silent, yet powerful imagery. Trine Søndergaard’s A Room Inside presents selected works from the period 2013-2017. Portraits, landscapes and reflections interspersed. They encompass and address themes such as existence, grief, history and transition.

Light Break posters by Nicolai Howalt. Each 50x70 cm.

In Light Break, Nicolai Howalt investigates the visible and invisible areas of the light spectrum as well as the life-giving and destructive power of the sun. Light Break builds upon Nobel Prize laureate Niels Ryberg Finsen’s work with phototherapy in the 19th century, in which certain disorders were treated by exposing the skin to particular wavelengths in sunlight. Using Finsen’s original filters and devices, Howalt was able to absorb specific areas of the light spectrum while letting the remaining areas of sunlight pass directly onto photosensitive paper, resulting in raw visual depictions of the sun and light itself.

78 Boxers - Nicolai Howalt by @fabrikbooks

Limited edition poster from Nicolai Howalt's Fungi. Edition of 80. Signed and numbered on Hahnemühle deckled edge paper. 70x100 cm.

Inside light-sealed, temperate boxes, Howalt has grown spores from select species of fungi directly on unexposed analog photographic paper. Living off the gelatin-based emulsion before final development in the darkroom the results yield vibrant photogram imagery created by the fungi tracing through the deteriorating paper.
