Always knew who’d make our wedding cake. 🎉😌💛

But also, fun fact, I wasn’t bothered for a cake to begin with… 👀

That was the first thing I thought to cut out when trying to budget, but I also gathered (VERY quickly) my husband would probably not attend his own wedding if there wasn’t any cake, that too @fadhiladesigns’s SCRUMPTIOUS DELIGHTS. So even before things were finalised, we knew there would be me, Mohammed and a chocolate cake. 🥲

But all jokes aside. I can’t be more grateful for having friends who are MAD talented and super creative MashaAllah. Even my in-laws and extended family marvel about how lucky I am to have the most incredible bunch.

Allahumma baarik.
Alhamdulillah x million times over!

Ps, all Fadhila cakes happen because of emotional bribery. 🙃

Sign a petition to get her a fancy personal kitchen to continue her craft, because the world really is missing out.

I know @beforeandagain_ and @grillodesigns agree! 😌

PS, the design was inspired by the wedding dress that Fadhila also helped me choose, a story for another day, because it’s a really good story. 😌😂💛

Alhamdulillah.

Trying out gouache paints for the first time in yearsss, I remember I bought some once in college but didn’t really get into it. Definitely loving the opaqueness of them in comparison to watercolours 😍

A few days ago I picked up a half finished painting I started while I was in Bangladesh in 2018. It’s the view from a hill in the village in northern Sylhet where my late Nani (maternal grandmother) grew up and where my mom was born 50 years ago.

As I was painting, I couldn’t help but think about my grandparents. This time 1971, my Nana and Nani, although already settled in the UK, were in that village, with two young children and my newly born mom, amidst a horrific war and fight for independence.

I thought about how my grandparents and family went through that, worked in factories and on sewing machines over here, struggled and fought for their kids to grow up with more; a home, education, food and clothes. On top of that supported their extended families back home, opened their house to the community and have been feeding and hosting people for over half a century. Can’t imagine the strength and selflessness سبحان الله!

That generation rarely speak about the immense struggles they must have faced in their lives, but they raised us with THE MOST love and care that we will ever receive in ours. رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا

Today is the 50th Independence Day of Bangladesh. I’m not really nationalistic, but it’s a reminder of where we’re from and the sacrifices people have made for us to be who we are today. 50 years isn’t long ago at all. If you have elders in your family, please appreciate them, call or spend time with them, ask them questions and stories about their lives. Give them a hug when you can. Carry on the legacies they’ve started.

(If you’re like me and haven’t had the chance to learn Bangla properly so far, let’s help each other and learn now. It’s part of our history and a language people fought and died to keep alive) leave a flower emoji if you read this far lol

I’m not too sure about this one 🤔 but I’m trying to make more content instead of just endlessly scrolling all the time (we’ll see how that goes) Any suggestions for what I should try next? What would you like to see here?

Also if anyone’s interested In buying this painting lemme know 🙌🏼
