It’s been a minute, so allow me to reintroduce myself!

Hi, I’m Fair🤗 Some of you know me as a yoga teacher or a fellow yogi practitioner. I haven’t been super present on here lately, but I’ve been quite busy and have exciting updates to share.

Since the Fall of 2024, I am also a student pursuing my doctorate in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, studying at Pacific Colleges of Health and Sciences here in San Diego. I’m on a journey to weave together yoga and traditional Chinese medicine. Exploring how these practices connect us to our physical and energy bodies, our breath and the rhythms of nature.

I’ll be sharing what I learn, what inspires me, and how to live in balance. I’d love for you to join me along the way. by @fairsflow

Meet Fair Smith ✨

Beyond her Qigong-inspired flows on the deck, Fair is the curator behind the scenes!

As our Yoga Program Director, she creates the Riffs experience; selecting our teachers, musicians, and private sessions so every moment on the deck feels unforgettable.

How did you find a home at Riffs? ☀️
“The beauty of the deck brought me in, but the genuine care of the community is what kept me here. My favorite part of the job is nurturing our teachers- supporting their growth and watching their connection to this community deepen.”

Fair’s classes are a practice in patience and presence and her fave dharma quote is:

“Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.” — Emerson

Where to find her:
Mondays 9:00am — Slow Flow
Tuesdays 7:30am — Vinyasa

Have you practiced with Fair yet?! Let’s show her some love for all that she does for our community & beyond 💕 taken in Riffs Yoga Studios by @fairsflow

I stopped drinking coffee about 4 years ago and it was one of the best decisions for my personal health.

Coffee added too much heat and inflammation for my body, leading to bloating, indigestion, and anxiety. Buuuut, I still love a gentle energy boost, so I turned to tea instead🫖

🍃 Green tea — cooling and detoxifying, helps circulate qi and ease internal heat (perfect for summer or calming excess fire).

🍂 Black tea — warming and supportive for digestion, blood, and qi flow (a beautiful morning choice or colder months).

My go to tea orders:
🍵Lavender Matcha Latte
☕️ London Fog Latte

I always avoid caffeine on an empty stomach, and switch between teas depending on the season and what my body needs that day. 💛

As always, listen to your body — there’s no one-size-fits-all. Just sip slowly and savor the ritual. 🫖✨ by @fairsflow

In TCM, autumn is the season of the Metal element, a time that nourishes and reflects the energy of the Lungs.🍃

The Lungs play a vital role in regulating the body’s overall function. They govern qi (our vital energy), oversee breathing, and help control the flow of blood and energy throughout all the channels and vessels.

The Lungs take in pure qi from the air and release turbid qi (the waste). This pure qi then combines with food qi from the Spleen to form gathering qi (zong qi) — the essential energy that fuels our daily functions and vitality. ✨

The Lungs are said to be the most delicate organ and need daily support—especially as the air cools and energy turns inward. 🌬️

Try Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) a pranayam practice to balance, ground, and nourish your lungs.

Place your index and middle fingers on your third eye, thumb on the right nostril, and ring finger on the left. Begin with a deep, slow breath in the nose and out the mouth. Then close the right nostril with your thumb to begin.

✨ Inhale through the left, close it, exhale through the right.
✨ Inhale through the right, close it, exhale through the left.

That’s one round—complete 5–8 rounds slowly and intentionally. Bonus if you can practice outdoors or first thing in the morning. 🤍

Cautions: If you’re feeling congested, have high blood pressure, or severe asthma, this may not be the pranayama practice for you. Practice with caution and always listen to your body! by @fairsflow

According to TCM, there are 5 seasons—each tied to an element and its flow of qi.

🍂 Autumn (metal) moves inward, ❄️ winter (water) sinks deep, 🌱 spring (wood) expands outward, 🔥 summer (fire) rises up, and 🌾 late summer (earth) centers and stabilizes. Each season reminds us how to move with nature’s rhythm. Some practitioners suggest we start nourishing our bodies two seasons ahead to stay in harmony and balance.

I’ve created a simple guide inspired by my TCM studies—honoring how each season moves through us, and how we can nourish mind, body, and spirit in return.

Swipe to flow with the seasons. 🌞🌿 by @fairsflow

Meet Fair Smith! 🦋

Warm, encouraging, and rooted in real-deal healing. Her flows are intuitive and accessible, helping you build strength, self-trust, and presence on the mat. As a future doctor of Chinese medicine, she brings a grounded, holistic vibe that’s as nurturing as it is empowering.

A little bit about Fair:

Where are you from?
✨ Originally from Connecticut but moved out to SD 3.5 years ago and can’t imagine being anywhere else

What inspired you to pursue a career in wellness?
✨ After enduring some health problems of my own and corporate burn out, I decided to make a total shift and pursue a career in holistic medicine and wellness. The practice of yoga truly saved me and my mat feels like one of the safest spaces for me to be. I want to share the practice with as many people as I can in hopes that others can find some of the same solace I did. I’m also currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. I believe in holistic medicine whole-heartedly and am eager to share it with the world in whatever way I can!

What’s one wellness tip you swear by?
✨ Doing some gratitude journaling as soon as you wake up in the morning! It’s astonishing how much it can change your perspective and shape your day.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
✨ I love to be outside and moving, but recently I’ve started to crochet! I’m still learning, but I’ve really enjoyed doing little projects and making things for myself, friends, and family.

What are you most excited about joining the Soul Plunge team?
✨ The Soul Plunge community is like a cozy hug wrapped in good vibes! I’m so excited to be around like-minded people and grow and expand alongside each and every one of you.

Week 5 of 5 complete for my 300hr yoga teacher training ✨

This post has been a tough one for me to make. My training is done, I’ve flown back to San Diego, and my reality is starting to sink in. The past 5 weeks have been truly life changing. I had the opportunity to completely immerse myself in all things yoga, learn so much about a new culture, experience daily life in a new climate, try all sorts of food and interact with the most amazing, genuine people. I want to share my deepest gratitude for everyone involved in this training, the instructors, the kitchen/hotel staff, all the folks behind the scenes at YogaUnion, and all my fellow students. I am eternally grateful for all your kindness and to have had the opportunity to know and to learn from all of you.

This training taught me a lot about yoga of course, but truthfully, I think I’ve learned more about myself. Strength and trust, that is what this training taught me. I had to find and connect with my strength, both physically and mentally, over these past weeks and I finally started to understand how important it is to trust the process and to truly trust myself. I reignited something within me over this past month and I’m so eager to see how it manifests. I could go probably write a book about this experience(and maybe I will😉), but I’ll cap it off here for now.

I have lots of new and exciting things that are brewing and I can’t wait to share them all with the world very soon✨🤍 taken in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia by @fairsflow

Week 4 of 5 complete for my 300hr yoga teacher training ✨

I cannot believe I’m already entering my last week here in Bali. This journey has been a true roller coaster, but it has given me the opportunity to discover and explore so many different parts of myself. Bali has become a second home to me and all these beautiful souls I’ve met here have become like a second family. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve fought, we’ve danced, we’ve supported each other day in and day out. This training has reminded me how important human connection is. It has reminded me that now matter how amazingly beautiful a place can be, it means nothing without special people to share it with🤍

While I am a bit nervous to leave my little rice fields Bali bubble next week, I feel ready and excited to return to my home in San Diego and share everything this experience has taught me with anyone who will listen 🙂

Thank you Mama Bali for all that you’ve given me thus far. Gunna soak up every little piece of you while I can🫶🏻

Week 3 of 5 complete for my 300hr yoga teacher training ✨

This may have been the most challenging week so far. My body, mind, and soul are tired, they’re all craving stillness, for things to slow down, but I’m close now. Each day brings new motivation and strength. The end is so near, and I know it’ll be bittersweet. My philosophy teacher shared some phrases this week that stuck with me and helped me re-focus, helped me to remember why I’m here:

“The more we get busy with life, the more we forget why it is there. Life is for living.”

I am grateful for this body.

For her ability to move, for her strength- loving her in the beautiful and the ugly moments all the same.

Understanding how she fluctuates and listening to her as she speaks using a language only we two can understand. Learning that no matter how she shows up, her sole purpose is to support me, to keep my energy flowing

Remembering to thank her, each and every day, for providing a safe place for my soul and my heart to live in. by @fairsflow
