POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
February is rare disease month and congenital heart disease month, and it’s a time to spread awareness and give a little extra recognition to the ones who have to fight these battles. But this post isn’t for them. This post is for their parents.

Becoming a medical mom …twice… changed my life. It changed me.

And I see you, too. I see the sleepless nights and early mornings. I see you juggling appointments, harassing doctors who don’t get back to you, scheduling as much as you can but not too much that it pushes your kid over the edge. I see you pushing your own self beyond what you thought you were capable of because this is your child and if you could you would gladly take their place. I see the piles of laundry and the attempt to look put together even though you haven’t showered in four days. I see you spoiling your typical kids extra, hoping that you’re doing enough for them too, knowing that this is part of their history and trauma as much as it is part of yours. I see you ordering pizza or feeding your kids cereal, too tired to fold your piles of laundry, pushing yourself to wash the dishes in the sink so that at least something is clean. I see you putting on a tough front as soon as you walk into that hospital room because your job is to fight for your child and no one can see a sliver of doubt or weakness. I see you putting on that armor even though maybe that day is the lowest moment of your entire life, maybe you’ve been in a dark place for a long time but your child needs you and that pushes you to get up every night and every morning. I see you break and become a new person, not a stronger one but a different one, who loves more fiercely and less selfishly because that is who your kids need you to be. And I know that whispering, lingering question that comes and goes in both the bad times and the good times: will my child survive this?

I see you. I am you. I love you.

February may be their month, but they are our entire lives. Here’s to us.

#CompleatPartner Becoming a parent to two disabled kids really opened my eyes to how rarely kids like mine see themselves in media. Over the past decade I’ve celebrated seeing more autism representation on TV and watching as some tv shows, have added ASL translation to certain episodes. While those are great steps forward, it’s still very uncommon to see tube feeding represented on any major platforms - so it’s really amazing to see this campaign with Compleat® help to normalize tube feeding!

Join Compleat® in helping to normalize tube feeding and join us in creating environments where tubie families feel supported by keeping the song going by singing or signing your own verse at Compleat.com/WhatIsBetterThanHow

Disclaimer: I am a hearing parent of a Deaf child and as a non-native signer I am doing my best with what I have learned in the past 4 years. I know that song translation is very difficult for non-native signers to get right, and please understand this is not an instruction on how to sign this verse. I am just a hearing mom doing her best to teach and include her Deaf child.

As I see a lot of moms beginning Q4 with the seasonal clothing shift - one of the worst chores in my opinion, especially with a lot of kids! - I just wanted to remind everyone that wow, we do a lot, and really don’t give ourselves the credit that we deserve. How is possible that my brain can simultaneously think about picture day today, the kids dentist appointment tomorrow, the groceries we are lacking, a birthday party in a few weeks, multiple soccer practices today and then games on Saturday and then I get annoyed at myself when I forget to buy oregano for the recipe I’m planning to make for dinner? And then I get more annoyed when I feel like I didn’t get all the things done that I wanted to do. I know I’m not the only one and if it was someone else of course I would say hey you are doing a GREAT job. So if someone else needs to say it for you to hear it - because our internal dialogues often tell us we are not doing enough or are not enough - you are a great mom. by @faithjski

Last weekend we had a “Nor’Easter” sweep through MA (don’t feel like it deserves that title but I digress) and that meant having to move two runs to the ☠️ treadmill ☠️

I don’t know how people manage to get in the zone! I get so bored 🙃 taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @faithjski

How did I manage to pull this off?

Apparently, training works ✔️
A positive mindset DURING the race ✔️
Delusion 💯

A little increased Achilles tendinitis post-race but my PT is confident that I can keep my half training mostly on target with some adaptations (mostly easy runs, splitting longer runs if needed, subbing hills with speed work, running on the track more, cross training 😅) I also realized that the pressure I’ve been putting on myself to hit a certain time goal for my half is a little silly when I’m going to PR since it’s my first half. My training plan maxes out at 12 miles, so it’ll be my first 13.1 anyway!

This B-race was a really great way for me to prep for my half because so much “went wrong” the two weeks prior, I also slept terribly and woke up not in the mood at all to run…but as soon as we got to the race everything changed haha by @faithjski

If you’re my PT, I swear I didn’t let my Achilles pain go above a 3/10 🤣

huge thanks to @forallmothersorg for my FAM+ grant and @runna - that speed work running way faster than this really paid off to still PR despite planning to only do this at a tempo pace 🤣🏆 I actually feel really good after this and not exhausted like I usually do!

here’s to hoping that getting dry needling tomorrow helps my Achilles tendinitis 😅 10K this weekend that might be a PR for slowest 10k I’ve ever logged on Strava ☠️ new PT (mine is on maternity leave) and she was…not enthusiastic about the idea of me running on Sunday 🙃 by @faithjski

NOTHING is going to stop me 🛑

If cancer didn’t take my ability to run away from me, my Achilles and my growing pile of ignored laundry will not either 😅 at least the laundry is clean 🤷‍♀️

I finished the Knave and the Moon on Friday and it was SO GOOD 😭 what’s on your TBR?

Also - I really want to run today but my Achilles is still reminding me to wait until I see my PT. Pure torture. Will I actually wait? 🤔🫠 taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @faithjski

Kidding! Sort of 😅

I *am* planning to take it easy this week after the longest running break I’ve had in 6+ months. That means run/walks and *maybe* one easy run this week, and not racing this upcoming Sunday but just running the 10k as a fun run instead of a PR - which, trust me, is a difficult thing for me to accept after planning to run it as at least a tempo run 😩

Trying to keep my eyes on the prize 🏆- not throwing off my actual training and getting *more* injured in the middle of this training block! I know my body really well, and for sure this Achilles tendinitis is a result of just a weaker calf tendon - this same tendon is the one that my plastic surgeon twisted through my sarcoma site to fill the hole 😅 when I saw the orthopedic urgent care dr this week he was like you know its really amazing how they did that and that you’re able to run like this. And it is! Trying really hard to stay positive and grateful 🥲 taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @faithjski
