Last week we had the honour to take the stage at @forwardfestivals Vienna to talk about something we care about a lot: how to help creatives price their work.

If you weren’t there, here’s a recap.

Value-based pricing: We gave a quick introduction on what it is and how context influences the price of your work.

Why we need to align on pricing: When everyone prices differently and a lot of us undercharge, it pulls the whole industry down. The more of us price based on value, the better it gets for all of us.

So many people came up to us after our talk with their own pricing stories, which showed us once again the need for discourse.

We also heard some stories at the festival that really stuck with us. One about Burger King and illustration theft (shoutout to cachetejack), and another about a designer getting sued by a band, both showing how important it is to have a good contract in place, because sometimes even dream jobs can turn into nightmares. And in a chat after the talk, someone told us they once charged $1k for a Canon billboard illustration early in their career.

Hi all,

We're still alive! You haven't heard from us in a while because we've been busy behind the scenes.

We just had our first appearance on the big stage at the Forward Festival in Berlin, introducing Faktor to the audience, which was incredibly exciting. We were part of the "Spotlight Your Idea" campaign that Forward Festivals hosts together with the Wirtschaftsagentur Wien.

If you missed us, no problem: we'll also be speaking at the Forward Festival again in Vienna on Friday the 2nd of October at 1:30 PM. Come by and say hi, we'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the tool.

Also let’s not compare service based work to local products like groceries? The globalisation of our industry means we are operating in an entirely different economy than local only businesses. Location matters when calculating the value of your work. Faktor does this for you, have you tried it yet?

The data from our beta testers shows that most creative freelancers still price based on hourly rates, likely because it’s easy to implement. Faktor calculator now makes value based pricing just as easy to calculate! Have you tried it yet?
