This month is busy: turn your head and you’ll find us! Mark your calendars so you don’t miss us!

October 4th: Come out to the historic Palomares House 11am to 3pm, to support the preservation of our local open spaces, wildlife habitats, and preserves. It’s a full day of family fun featuring a delicious BBQ, live music, a beer and wine garden, a silent auction, animal encounters, and covered wagon rides! All proceeds directly support the FLC's conservation efforts right here in Fallbrook.

October 13th: Put your walking shoes on and join us for our Monthly Senior Walk with the Center for Senior Well-being. A body in motion stays in motion. So lace up, step outside, and let nature be your gym. This monthly walk for seniors starts at 10 am at Dinwiddie Preserve. No registration required!

October 18th: The Fallbrook Harvest Faire is another free, family‑friendly event in downtown Fallbrook (Main Avenue). It’s an autumn faire put on by the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce and is part of the seasonal “Scarecrow Days”. Join us for crafty fun at our non-profit booth! Stop by the Chamber window display to catch a glimpse of our Scarecrow display, complete with our own history of FLC signs!

October 21st: This month’s Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce SunDowner is hosted at our very own Palomares House! This networking mixer is open to local businesses and community members.

October 24th: You can find FLC at the North County Fire Protection Open House. Join us for fun and crafts while learning about Fallbrook Land!

Let’s talk about unincorporated areas and what it means for open spaces. Fallbrook is a census-designated place (CDP), meaning it's recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau as a populated area but doesn't have its own municipal government.

That means that services in Fallbrook come from nonprofits, committees and community service districts. (For example, fire protection is provided by North County Fire Protection District.) Our community is responsible for caring for and growing our open spaces and preserves.

Nonprofits or conservancies, like Fallbrook Land Conservancy, bring in private donations, foundation grants, or partnerships to support local projects, trails, or community needs. FLC does not receive ongoing budget support from state or federal legislature. We rely on our community donations, grants and fundraising to help us keep our preserves growing.

Let’s break it down by examples:
If you pledge a $5 a month donation, we can purchase a new California Milkweed every month to help grow our Appleton Preserve.
If you pledge a $15 a month donation, our Save Our Forest committee can purchase a new shovel for volunteers on Wednesdays.
If you pledge a $50 monthly recurring, we can commit to new signage for our trailheads.
If you pledge a $100 monthly donation, we can hire landscaping and preserve managers to help maintain our Los Jilgueros walkways and wetlands.
Your donation helps the Fallbrook Land Conservancy protect open space, restore native habitats, and keep our wild places thriving—for today and for future generations.
From $10 to $1000, any donation helps us preserve Fallbrook.

👋👋 If you're new here, we'd like to reintroduce ourselves. 👋👋

Fallbrook Land Conservancy (FLC), founded in 1988, is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and enhancing the rural character of Fallbrook (an unincorporated village in Northern San Diego County, in Southern California).

FLC owns more than 3,500 acres of permanently protected open space and we hold over 1,100 acres of conservation easements. We have planted over 4,000 trees and we manage and maintain multiple hiking and walking trails.

There are over 30 properties managed by FLC and we have over 70,000 annual visitors to our preserves. All that land takes a lot of work and dedication.

Any given day of the week you’ll find volunteers planting and managing the lands, brainstorming fundraising ideas, meeting and collaborating with local businesses and planning our member events! We're so happy you're here!

No matter what you're going through in life, KEEP PUSHING! 💪🏽🏔️

Life is going to throw challenges at you. Work, relationships, finances, stress…
sometimes it feels like
everything is hitting you at once.

But here's my advice: DON'T LET YOUR PROBLEMS DEFEAT YOU.

Get up. Get moving.
Clear your mind. Find something
that challenges you physically and mentally.

For me, it's this mountain.
Every step uphill reminds me that no matter how hard life gets,
I still have the strength to keep climbing.

You can't control everything
happening around you, but you
CAN control how you respond to it.

Some days you won't feel motivated. Some days you'll want to quit.
KEEP GOING ANYWAY.

Leave the stress at the bottom of the mountain.
Let the climb clear your mind,
and come back down stronger
than you went up.

Today I pushed myself harder
than ever and hit another personal record! ⏱️🔥

Remember, the mountain doesn't get easier. YOU GET STRONGER.

Just some trail maintenance happening today! The boardwalk at Los Jilgueros was rudely interrupted by a fallen tree over the weekend. It’s ok, our trail stewards will have it back up in no time.

Please use caution when walking LJP and any of our preserves as the storm did get a little rowdy and we’re still recovering!

Time for a volunteer update! The Native Plant Restoration Team sheet mulched at Los Jilgueros Preserve to reduce the number of non-native plants and prepare for future native plants. They also pulled weeds at the Palomares House and watered plants at Appleton Preserve.

Look at the beautiful Appleton Preserve! Wonderful to witness the change that happens when the NPRT makes it happen. Swipe to see the exact same spot January 2025. Less than two years of growth and the plants are so tall you can barely see the team!
