I am Jack’s unbearable lightness of being.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Some action shots of me from @fastmatches Idaho 2026. Long-format stages (six minutes!) with unforgiving requirements of accuracy in practical shooting. These matches will push your skills to the limit and demand mental and physical ability combined with a variety of shooting styles.

You will encounter rusty spinners, invisible targets, unfair light and shadow changes, grueling cardio, and awkward shooting positions. You will probably par out and you WILL have at least one penalty. The difference between first and second place is in MINUTES.

Being the fastest sometimes requires skipping small priority targets to make time for higher ones, or leaving certain engagements for last. Often these decisions, due to stage design, changing sunlight, and other variables, must be made in the moment. At FAST matches, no plan survives contact with the buzzer.

But within that suffering you will not only find a new type of strength from within, but also the strength of the community of shooters at FAST matches. Everyone is eager to help you succeed: your squad-mates, but also the ROs and the spectators. Everyone wants everyone to excel. Competition is healthy, in a friendly way. No drama, no bickering over rules like a stubborn D&D prima donna, no politics or bad vibes. Just challenging, fun shooting.

My load-out for Trooper Division in @fastmatches Idaho 2026, requiring I carry everything I will and might need on my person for the whole match. The LARP theme is 2022 Ukraine War International Volunteer.

Eagle Industries LBE borrowed from a coworker with USGI magazine pouches. Eight primary magazines, four secondary. Spare PPE and pads. Spare clips and ties of various styles. Electrical and duct tape. Spare BCG and parts for primary and secondary. Multi-head nut driver and factory tool kit. Secondary TQ, 3L hydration bladder, and IFAK (might move to belt).

Not pictured: Ammunition and food.

British MTP combat top and pants. Cotton shemagh, Multicam boonie. @esstac chest rig with 3-4 primary and 4-5 secondary magazines, primary TQ, admin pouch with @riteintherain pencil and pad, spare earplugs, chamber flag, chapstick, lighter, and other misc.

In the clothing are a pen and Sharpie, business cards, Gerber multitool, zip-ties, and a small folding knife. Yellow IFF tape will be wrapped around leg and arm on-site.

Finally, the last line: CZ Bren 2Ms 14” SBR with 3.5x @trijicon ACOG TA-11 and @vikingtactics quick-adjust sling and @magpul bipod. Custom SLAVA UKRAINI magazine. My pistol is a CZ P-10C FDE with a rare @leadsteel Pandora PB-3 FDE.

The belt is ALICE, the holster is ~custom-camouflaged~ Bianchi UM-84/92 on a USGI Molle drop-leg extender, and finally a generic surplus dump pouch. by @fallingsteel

The @saviorequipment Ultimate Guitar Case lets me take Brenhilde out on adventures without advertising to the neighborhood. I’ve checked it on flights with no issues. Sturdy, reliable, and prime real estate for all those stickers you’re collecting. I also cut slots for suppressor and magazines. by @fallingsteel

The British Mastiff 2 MRAP. Derived from the US Cougar HE 6x6. Under the hood is a Caterpillar C7 and Allison automatic. Designed to keep UK soldiers alive, it did its job flawlessly: not a single death from IEDs in operational history.

I picked up this Meng kit on Temu on a steal of a promotional sale. It sat in a closet for a year and some before I committed to building it over Christmas break. More than four months later, I’m calling it finished. The wife is happy to have back the kitchen table. Enjoy the views of our backyard.
