NEW INTREPID LIFE FORMS EMANCIPATE QUEER DESIRES

Come witness alien contusions and rogue life growths crafted from excursions into the inner wilderness.

Through sculpture, sewing and song, we heal our wounds through creative abstraction, happening upon hope among chaos. These beings and their songs animate our individual experiences of queer joy and resistance. It’s a messy but vibrant menagerie embodying conflicting feelings of hope and grief.

Enjoy bathing among the raucous joyous chorus of creatures who will not be silenced.

Please join us to mark the opening of The little guys that come out of me: sit and listen to them, a new exhibition by Natasha and Ezra Munro and Lucky Pollock.

Through a “tag team” collaborative process spanning 12months, siblings Natasha and Ezra Munro crafted a series of elaborate and sometimes explicit beings from donated and found objects, clay, fabric and printed materials. Lucky Pollock and Natasha Munro then sonically responded to the creatures, with Lucky’s sound works being crafted on a Nintendo DS.

With the exhibition, the artists consider whether “the playful yet confronting nature of these creatures and their songs enable a more realistic depiction of queer expression. The aim of these works was to spark joy (and possibly shock), to grieve but also to play. Some of these beings are almost toy-like, but perhaps too confronting to quite be so. The bitcrushed sound of the Nintendo combined with Lucky’s hyperactive and frenetic compositional style amplify this feeling.”

Queer joy means living freely, openly and honestly in alignment with one’s emotions and desires. Unfortunately in our current world this also means embodying that which some simply repress, refuse to understand, or outright scrutinise. The creature-like creations of Ezra and Natasha do not gloss over the pain that is caused by this oppression, nor are they completely overwhelmed by it, integrating these conflicting aspects to become a dynamic gathering of symbolically hopeful life forms.

took me ages to post, but finally a celebration of the whole reason i came over to europe !

on the full moon in sagittarius on the 31st of may this year i was absolutely honoured to have my piece “resilience - pluto trine saturn” performed in bucharest at the 2026 ISCM world new music days festival

never expected that this would’ve happened when i put my submission in to @composersassociationnz but so incredibly grateful and glad to have had this opportunity.

this really has meant the world for me while i’m still starting out my career as a composer / musician and i am so happy for all of the wonderful people i’ve been meeting along the way.

thank you to the @iscm_romanian_section for having me and to Bogdan Voda and the Concerto Orchestra UNMB for making this happen!

Looking back on old videos from my university piano recitals to remind myself of my own strength and share this with people to show everyone that I am proud of myself - something my old self at the time would not have done.

In the classical world the standard you’re supposed to reach is somehow complete perfection - which meant that nothing I could ever achieve was good enough. Even listening back now I have to avert my attention from focussing too much on the mistakes that I can hear. Three years of intensive classical piano study (all while living with undiagnosed PTSD, autism and ADHD) completely took the joy out of playing for me. If you watch the full videos of these I posted on YouTube, at the end when I stand up you can see how unhappy I look.

Yet I still did it, I survived and passed my third year of study with an A grade.

Which is why I’m posting them now - to celebrate now the work I wasn’t able to celebrate then. I’ve been reconnecting with the piano more and more after a few years of barely playing - finally finding myself able to improvise and enjoy myself while playing. Playing the piano now makes me feel more connected to my own strength because it was such a pivotal part of one of the most difficult times of my life.

I now can also appreciate how receiving this kind of training is a privilege and be grateful for the skills it has given me.

I spent so much time trying to perfectly channel the music of dead men for so long … I do still have a soft spot for some of them, but now it’s time for me to make space for my own music - which I have been doing ! I’ve been spontaneously composing some piano pieces - who knows when I’ll release them as I have a ridiculous backlog of projects at the moment, but do keep an ear out as I’ve been integrating the piano back into my musical practice again.

been sick again post cubadupa (being round lots of people at once unfortunately still does not do wonders for my immune system) and finally taken a day to rest fully for myself, and been confronted with how much I’ve been pushing through the past week ….

our current world unfortunately does not often allow adequate time for rest (among many many other things) so feeling grateful to be able to get some time for myself

i’m also trying to stay grounded by reminding myself that this music I’m releasing now was only made possible through the quiet times of reflection, rest and gradual change i embodied during and after getting glandular fever in 2024, while slowly recovering from ptsd

may i make many much more healing musics in the future - just have some more healing to do for myself in the meantime !! by @falloverfourleafclovers

yesterday I was blessed to come past a proliferation of kahukōwhai (yellow admiral) butterflies and bees amongst the koromiko (hebe)

i hope you enjoy these pics as much as i enjoyed standing with the butterflies as they posed for me to take them, the odd one venturing to land on my shoulder before fluttering away quickly before I could capture them in a picture by @falloverfourleafclovers

surprise !! here's a little video i put together for my first single off my upcoming album "magnifying a moment"

this song is a little sneak peek of a series of improvised flute and vocal pieces (this is the only vocal only piece) i've been crafting in conversation with the birds around wellington

this project has helped me to reconnect with my creativity and ground and become more present in my self, my body and nature, and my hope is that it will help others to do the same <3

today on my walk around the block i was absolutely stunned to behold a greedy pīpīwharauroa chick flitting around and sitting pretty while an unwitting and unfortunately obliging riroriro worked tirelessly foraging food to feed the cuckoo chick who was twice its size ! by @falloverfourleafclovers
