I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but LOOK at this cover! Something Wicked comes out in paperback on October 20th, and I can’t wait for more readers to discover the first book in my romantasy series.

Now, for what’s on the inside?

👑 There’s a prince who can’t do the one thing he needs to in order to save his subjects

🫦 A courtesan who can manipulate people…so long as they reach a happy ending

🔪 A Macbeth retelling like no other

💥 Plot twists that will keep you turning those pages, longing for book two (which comes out in December!)

So go ahead, treat yourself to a preorder and all of the fun swag that comes with it. Link in my bio to order!

When I write a book, you are absolutely going to FEEL something. And the thing about Something Wicked, is that it’s definitely my spiciest book yet.

🎩 Moulin Rouge vibes

🌶️ Spicy lessons

💥 Romantasy that’s heavy on the romance

You’ll want to pre-order, and snag all of the fun goodies I’ve got to pair with the book!

In-person events are SO BACK, babe! If you’re in New York, please come to the paperback release of SOMETHING WICKED with me and @emmanoyesmaybe

There will be magic, mischief, tarot cards (we are in spooky season, after all!), and some IRL hugs from me.

So come on out to @therippedbodice in Brooklyn on October 20th. I can’t wait to see you!

Might also have an ARC or two of COME AWAY WITH ME up for grabs…!

Former theater kids, this book is for you!

I wrote Something Wicked because, as a theater lover, I wanted the drama of a stage performance, but in a book. I wanted to write a page turner that would make my readers’ hearts race, and have the classic romance yearning I know so well.

Something Wicked is a Shakespeare retelling, and the first book in my romantasy series. You can get it in paperback on October 20th, wherever books are sold (but the link in my bio has all the info you need!).

And if you haven’t, let these reviews convince you! Did I mention the last slide has goodies for anyone who preorders the paperback?!? #retellings #romantasybooks #fantasybooks #preorder #romantasyreads by @falonballard

So today is one of those days when, if you’re a reader, your feed is going to be flooded with these posts. It’s time for another B&N preorder sale, and one thing authors are all (mostly) desperate for is preorders. I wrote a substack a while back about how my books have never done particularly well when it comes to preorders. And now, they matter more than ever. My publisher wasn’t happy with the sales numbers for Something Wicked, which is part of the reason What Light Breaks is not coming out in hardcover. I still have a lot of big feelings about this series and all the behind the scenes publishing stuff that goes with it and a big part of me wanted to walk away from the whole thing and not even try. But that’s not really in my nature. I can’t write off characters that have lived in my head for more than ten years. And I can’t write off a project I have put my whole heart and soul into. So I’m going to continue to promote these books with everything I have left to give. And I can only hope they find their audience, and maybe that audience will be you ❤️❤️❤️ #romantasy #romantasybooks #barnesandnoble #preordersale #authorsofinstagram by @falonballard

I’ve got some extra special treats for people who preorder the Something Wicked paperback! If you preorder it from any vendor, submit your proof of purchase via the link in my bio and you’ll receive:

📖 A sexy short story from the Idle Reputations universe
🎧 A NSFW audio clip from Chapter 12 of Something Wicked (IYKYK)
🥃 Two custom Cate & Callum cocktail recipes
❤️ A Something Wicked playlist
If you already preordered through Ripped Bodice (remember, that’s the only way to get your tarot cards!) that’s great! Just submit your receipt at the link for even more treats.

And if you’ve already read Something Wicked? This is the perfect excuse to gift a copy to someone you love. Send them the paperback, keep the digital goodies for yourself, and voilà: you’ve got someone to obsess over Cate & Callum with before What Light Breaks comes out in December.

This book is so special to me, and I’m so excited to give it one more glorious moment before we move on to the next installment. And if you love Cate and Callum, just wait until you meet Maro and Lia 🔥🔥🔥🔥
