Your local Selena impersonator™️ reminding everyone she was an Aries queen💜

The very first cassette I owned was Selena’s Amor Prohibido. This isn’t surprising having been born and raised in Texas in the 90s. What’s funny is how I came to own it. My tío from Mexico was staying with us and had purchased it for himself. I quickly commandeered it; as a titi myself, I now understand why he couldn’t bring himself to pry it from my 4yr old hands. Sorry Tio Javier! Rest assured that I put it to very good use. 🎤

Feliz día bbta🎂 thank you for every memory I’ve made honoring you!

Fun fact: while Selena is synonymous with a red lip, she also loved Revlon’s Softsilver Rose, which is still available for under $7💄 taken in Sixth Street by @fancy_pantsless

September is Suicide Prevention month and I think it’s important to talk about what someone needing support can look like. It’s your friend asking if you’re down for a last-minute happy hour. It can be your fave coworker who always seems to be halfway across the globe. Sometimes it’s the person who laughs the most.

Envy is a normal human emotion but we often don’t see the harvest of what we envy, only its fruits. It’s easier to show empathy for those visibly struggling; it’s much harder to do so when it means being present emotionally and otherwise day-to-day for those in our life. Especially when we covet what we imagine their life to be.

I am no stranger to passive suicidal ideation which at its definition is—not wanting to be alive, without a plan to take action. I remain faithful to truth because I know no other way to be, though I recognize I keep parts of myself to share only with my closest loved ones. But here I am, because I hope it makes someone feel less alone. I hope it also encourages someone to show up for their loved ones, not only when they outwardly appear to need it but consistently and when it’s inconvenient to do so.

I am so fortunate to have resources, both financially and community-wise, to dedicate to my health. I know many are not as lucky. I still believe despite all these systemic barriers, the support we all need the most is found in each other. I will not buy into the capitalist mindset that I can fend on my own because I know our purpose is to need and support each other. That is humanity. That is the point of it all🫀
