yesterday outside karachi press club, @auratmarch organisers were arrested — including @sheemakermani, a 75 old dancer and activist who’s body and person has long become a political site of contention. a woman was slapped on the lahore metro last week for wearing shalwar kameez disapproved by a stranger.the policing of women’s life, body, and choices is endless in this fascist state. clothing doesn’t matter but it is the beginning of a social marker. how dare she dance. how dare she wear make up. how dare she walk, be seen in public at ease. look outside your window anywhere in pakistan—99% men on any street. a woman in public is treated as an exception, even a provocation.who gets to occupy space inconsequentially? who gets to be present without explanation, and who is forced into justification. at @aramishaijaan we celebrate women in public —unapologetic, expansive, and unwilling to disappear.we stand with @auratmarch , its organisers, and with all the women who refuse to shrink themselves. by @farehaaabid
