The seasons are changing, and our Gift Shop is looking rather lovely for autumn.

We’ve been welcoming new ranges and seasonal favourites, with beautiful woollen textiles, dried flowers, handcrafted notebooks, locally inspired books, candles and more.

🐑 Celebrating 25 Years of The Wool Clip at Farfield Mill

We had a wonderful afternoon today opening The Wool Clip – 25 Years in the Making, celebrating an incredible milestone for this talented group of makers.

Founded in 2001, The Wool Clip has spent the past 25 years championing British wool, traditional skills, contemporary craft and the creativity of its members.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening, and to all the Wool Clip members who have brought together such a fantastic exhibition.

Open now is the new solo exhibition Text & Textile! @farfield.mill by acclaimed textile artist Connie Flynn, which explores the surprising textile origins of familiar everyday sayings. Through extensive research, she discovered many common English phrases stem directly from the language of weaving, spinning and textile production; echoes of Britain’s rich industrial heritage that continue to shape the way we speak today.

Working with repurposed domestic linens and traditional white cotton garments, Flynn hand-stitches these phrases using striking red thread. Each embroidered work invites visitors to pause and reconsider language that has become second nature, revealing hidden stories of labour, craft and history stitched into our everyday conversations.

Flynn is a multidisciplinary textile artist whose practice spans more than three decades of exhibiting across the UK and internationally. Sustainability lies at the heart of her practice, with repurposed domestic textiles and thoughtfully sourced materials preserving both physical resources and cultural narratives.
Text & Textile! is at Farfield Mill, Sedbergh, until 13 September. Admission is free.

Artist Feature | Emily Brooks 🎨

There's a wonderful sense of calm and space in Lines Across the Water, this beautiful hand-carved linocut by Emily Brooks, currently on display in Exploration and Discovery at Farfield Mill.

Emily's love of mountains and the natural world runs through all of her work. Rather than creating exact representations, she works largely from memory, allowing landscapes to settle before translating them into print. Each piece becomes a blend of places visited, moments experienced and memories recalled, capturing not just how a landscape looks, but how it feels.

Hand-carved and hand-printed, Emily's linocuts celebrate the timeless craft of printmaking. As Emily says, the process is "a truly analogue experience in an increasingly digitised world."

If you're looking for an original piece of art inspired by the beauty of the Lake District, this exhibition is not to be missed.
