Delighted to meet Keith Barber of @gneissrugs at the rather wonderful @farfield.mill near Sedbergh. Keith makes lovely thick rugs on a handmade peg loom, one of the oldest forms of weaving. No two are the same. The rugs are made from selvedge, the strips cut off the edges of woven woollen fabric to tidy them up, which he sources from mills all over Britain, and his designs recall the coloured bands of gneiss rock formations found on the Scottish islands. Gneiss is pronounced ‘nice’, thereby allowing Keith to make a terrible pun for his business name. But the rugs are very gneiss indeed, so I bought the one he was making and now have to decide on floor or wall for it. Follow him on here.

I had a lovely group of mainly new weavers in my workshop @farfield.mill today. We had some fabulous fabric woven; experimenting with both colour & texture on rigid heddle looms. It was great to celebrate each others achievements at the end of the day. Many thanks to the staff in the Farfield Mill cafe who provided us with a tasty lunch & a welcoming table. #weavingworkshop #rigidheddleloom #farfieldmill #flockofwheels

WHERE TO FIND ME… A little round-up of where my paintings can currently be found… It’s lovely to realise that my work is hanging in four galleries at the moment, from London to Surrey, Cumbria and the Norfolk coast. So, if you’ve been thinking about seeing my paintings in person, or perhaps there’s one you’ve had your eye on, here’s where you can find them. • Thompson’s Gallery, London • The Wey Gallery, Surrey • Farfield Mill, Sedbergh • The Point Gallery, Cromer Swipe through for a little peek inside each gallery. And if you’re not close enough to visit, you can always browse the paintings on my website. There’s something special about seeing a painting in real life, especially when you’re deciding whether it might belong in your home. #ContemporaryArt #BritishArtist #OriginalArt #ArtCollectors #ArtForTheHome

I’m still at my little studio here @farfield.mill just finishing off a few little characters before packing up the old jalopy for my events this weekend. On Saturday I’ll be @victoriabaths Mcr, from 11-4pm, then on Sunday I’m over @leftbankleeds for another @thecraftandflea event at Leeds. Lots more to do and to finish off before I head south, I’m hoping for clear roads 🤞 #jitterbugsbysally #victoriabaths #thecraftandflealeeds #sustainability #steampunk

Tapestry admin on the Sedbergh Tapestry today (aka the Community Tapestry) at @farfield.mill . Team effort sewing slits, stitching the cartoon to the tapestry, then winding it on ready for the next bits! Helen, Jane & Valerie learning new skills, but it's also a case of team problem solving - working out how each step will work best in practice. We're all learning while doing! Steady progress... #btgweavers #britishtapestrygroup #nearlywildweaving #tapestrytogether #tapestryinconversation

First class of the Autumn didn’t quite go to plan yesterday @farfield.mill , Sedbergh unfortunately their lift wasn’t working but the staff were real troopers as all the looms had to be lugged down a flight of stairs. It was a great day of weaving with several newbies weaving their first scarf And back again today 🤔yes I left my bag 🥺. Still another excuse to use their cafe
