Big one to share - I’ve been selected for PhotoVogue Residency 2026 in Taipei! 🇹🇼🌟

This July, I’ll be spending five days in an immersive residency with a curated cohort from across East and South East Asia. Excited to learn from each other and build connections across cultures as part of @photovogue ‘s 15th anniversary and @voguetaiwan ‘s 30th anniversary celebrations

And as part of this, my work Angan-Angan Harsa will also be featured in the accompanying group exhibition “The Gap of Memory” - alongside 18 incredible photographers, opening at BELLAVITA from 3 July yo 2 August.

A new photobook; ‘Angan-Angan Harsa’ by Farid Renais Ghimas.

Angan-Angan Harsa is an energetic exploration of moments of joy, set in the familiar landscapes of photographer Farid Renais Ghimas’ birthplace, Bengkulu—a province on the southwest coast of Sumatra Island, Indonesia. Documented in the summer of 2022, this series portrays the artist’s family, friends, and community members as protagonists in a visual narrative that reflects the rhythms of everyday life. Through depictions of sun-soaked afternoons outdoors, moments of laughter among family and friends, and the quiet intimacy of home, the photographs celebrate the beauty of the mundane and the relationships that define both personal and collective identity.

Farid’s photographs are both tender and honest, as if caught in the unguarded seconds of a fleeting memory. His visual palette radiates calmness and tranquility, often characterized by soothing colors reminiscent of a peaceful late afternoon glow. He views his approach to color as an integral part of the image — a visual feeling that triggers a memory of a visceral emotion from growing up in Indonesia.

Originally developed as a final university project during the artist’s MA at Central Saint Martins in 2022, the series was initially presented as a photobook for his final submission. It was later reworked and published by Jordan, jordan Édition in 2024, following discussions that began in 2023. Meaning “Dreams of Joy” in Indonesian, the project draws upon fragments of Farid’s childhood memories and experiences from his visits to Bengkulu, manifesting them through photographs that reveal how the place looks today. The book invites the viewers to reflect on the connections between people, place, and memory, offering a personal yet universal story of belonging.

As with most projects born from the heart, photographer Farid Renais Ghimas (@faridrenais) began preparing for his first book, Angan-Angan Harsa, long before he formally began to shape it. The title, which translates to ‘Dreams of Joy’ in Indonesian, echoes not only his growth as an artist – shaped during an MA in fashion photography at Central Saint Martins in London – but also memories of his boyhood, growing up in a lush, island-strewn expanse between the Indian and Pacific oceans.

Bits and bops from my PhotoVogue Residency in Taipei 🇹🇼

It’s difficult to put into words how much this week of residency meant to me. I’m incredibly grateful to @photovogue and @voguetaiwan for bringing us all together in Taipei, and for an experience that I’ll take close to heart for a very long time

A huge thank you to @sunles & @zhonglin_ for sharing your time, experience, and generosity with us throughout the residency. To @nymphlee for curating the exhibition: Fragments of Remembering, and to @anitakutee for organising everything so thoughtfully and bringing all of us from different corners of the world together in one place.
