We're delighted to announce the selected artists for Scrumping Apples, our inaugural online exhibition, guest-curated by Farnaz Gholami.

Following a thoughtful selection process and an incredibly strong response to the open call, we are pleased to present the artists selected for this exhibition.

Inspired by Hurvin Anderson's Scrumping, the exhibition brings together artists whose work explores memory, migration, belonging, and the evolving idea of home. Reflecting on movement across places, cultures, and generations, the selected works consider how identity is continually shaped through memory, lived experience, and imagination.

I’m thrilled to be part of this show with @handson.projects curated by @senemcb

“Hands-on is pleased to present “Residue”, the final residency exhibition showcasing works by Ana Benavides, Jingshan Ding, Farnaz Gholami, Seongeun Lee, and Regina Thorres Thompson, curated by Senem Cagla Bilgin-Keys.
Situated within a domestic space, Residue brings the works into an intimate field of dialogue. The pieces, which recontextualise the ordinary elements of domestic life, invite us to rethink boundaries, modes of belonging and the possibilities of living together. In this context, Residue refers not only to what remains, but to the traces left behind by shared experiences, encounters and lived time. As the exhibition interrogates notions of safety, familiarity and coexistence, it displaces the idea of home from a fixed place into a continuously reconfigured relational space.
Residue will be on display at A Space Residence from 02 to 05 July 2026 and will continue online until 09 August 2026.

Artist in residence: Farnaz Gholami

Farnaz Gholami is an Iranian visual artist whose painting practice explores place as a shifting and unstable condition shaped by memory, identity, and diasporic experience. Born in Dublin and raised in Tehran, she draws on experiences of displacement to create fragmented landscapes where psychological and material ruptures intersect with the natural world. Through fluid brushwork, playful forms, and heightened colour, her works invite viewers into contemplative spaces where fragility, freedom, and ideas of belonging unfold.

Installation view of “Radio City”, presented as part of my solo exhibition “Interlude” at @nuweland.nl, Mexico, 2025.
This painting draws inspiration from a cinema in Tehran built in the 1960s, once a glamorous gathering place to watch the latest films, now left abandoned. I reimagined a different life for the building, where nature slowly reclaims and revitalises the space.
Lately, I find myself reflecting on the Tehran I’ve been painting over the past few years. Tehran will rise again. taken in Tehran, Iran by @farnaz.gholami

For over a month, I’ve been following the news day and night, watching bombs fall on my country, on my beloved city, Tehran. My own brief experience of war doesn’t come close to what people are living through there now. Tehran is my home town. It has always been part of my art, its history, architecture, landscapes, and people have endlessly inspired me.

This painting is part of a series I created in 2022, where I reimagined abandoned cinema theatres, giving them new life through nature and imagination.
It’s hard to hold onto hope. But I still do, I hope Tehran will endure, rise beyond this exhaustion, and see better days. My heart is there.
