Scrumping Apples - is a group exhibition dedicated to artists who have crossed borders, built homes in unfamiliar places, and continue to make work through uncertainty. It is also a reflection on artistic persistence: holding on to the early impulses that first compelled us to create while remaining open to transformation.

For this inaugural online exhibition, we’d like to thank guest-curator Farnaz Gholami, and her thoughtful consideration of all submitted artwork. We’d like to thank all the participating artists for putting their trust into this showcase, and everyone who took time to submit their work. We would like to congratulate Yang-En Hume, the winner of the Artist Spotlight Award, which will be presented on our website and Substack newsletter later this year.

Please feel free to message us with all inquiries.

Exhibition is on view until 25 October 2026

Hands-on Journal | Residue: Traces of Belonging

Residue reconsiders the idea of home beyond physical boundaries, examining it as a space produced through relationships, experiences and accumulated traces. Through diverse approaches, Ana Benavides, Seongeun Lee, Jingshan Ding, Farnaz Gholami and Regina Torres Thompson reflect on the persistence of memory, the materiality of time and the ways in which personal and collective histories continue to inhabit the present.

We're delighted to announce the selected artists for Scrumping Apples, our inaugural online exhibition, guest-curated by Farnaz Gholami.

Following a thoughtful selection process and an incredibly strong response to the open call, we are pleased to present the artists selected for this exhibition.

Inspired by Hurvin Anderson's Scrumping, the exhibition brings together artists whose work explores memory, migration, belonging, and the evolving idea of home. Reflecting on movement across places, cultures, and generations, the selected works consider how identity is continually shaped through memory, lived experience, and imagination.

Final residency exhibition: Residue

A few more shots from Residue, the final presentation of works created during the fourth edition of our residency programme.

Curated by Senem Cagla Bilgin-Keys (@senemcb), the exhibition is a reflection on the meaning of home in a time marked by fragmentation, uncertainty and shifting forms of belonging. Through works situated within a domestic setting, Residue explores how intimacy, coexistence and shared experience can become the foundations of a new sense of home - not as a fixed place, but as a relational space continuously shaped through everyday encounters.

Final residency exhibition: Residue

Residue refers not only to what remains, but to the traces left behind by shared experiences, encounters and lived time. As the exhibition interrogates notions of safety, familiarity and coexistence, it displaces the idea of home from a fixed place into a continuously reconfigured relational space.

Final residency exhibition: Residue

Situated within a domestic space, the exhibition brings the works into an intimate field of dialogue. The pieces, which recontextualise the ordinary elements of domestic life, invite us to rethink boundaries, modes of belonging and the possibilities of living together.

《Residue》 We live in an era of profound estrangement. Shaped by modern individualisation, digital polarisation and rising nationalisms, our sense of a shared life has been severely eroded. We find ourselves in societies where we are physically close yet increasingly distant from one another emotionally and politically. This fragmentation leaves our desire for belonging susceptible to narratives shaped by fear, while destabilising the very ground upon which coexistence is built. In a world where traditional anchors have dissolved, the exhibition revolves around a fundamental question: what does it mean to be ‘at home’?

If home is no longer a fixed geographic coordinate, then one must become their own home, a portable space in which consciousness, values and dignity are carried within. Yet this internal refuge does not imply withdrawal from the world. On the contrary, it necessitates a new form of togetherness, one that requires us to live with difference and to cultivate a sense of responsibility towards one another. This form of coexistence does not emerge from a romanticised unity but from fragile yet meaningful relations formed within everyday life.

Situated within a domestic space, the exhibition brings the works into an intimate field of dialogue. The pieces, which recontextualise the ordinary elements of domestic life, invite us to rethink boundaries, modes of belonging and the possibilities of living together. In this context, Residue refers not only to what remains, but to the traces left behind by shared experiences, encounters and lived time. As the exhibition interrogates notions of safety, familiarity and coexistence, it displaces the idea of home from a fixed place into a continuously reconfigured relational space.

A glimpse of what Farnaz Gholami has been developing during the Hands-on Residency.

Farnaz Gholami (@farnaz.gholami)’s residency project explores the transformation of landscape under the pressures of violence, memory, and distance. Developed in response to a period of conflict in Iran, her paintings reflect on the experience of witnessing familiar places through a constant flow of images, where skies, clouds, and smoke become charged with both beauty and catastrophe. Through works that return to Mount Damavand, a powerful symbol in Iranian cultural memory, she considers resilience, continuity, and the possibility of hope amid uncertainty.

Her work will be part of Residue, the final residency exhibition, taking place at A Space Residence from 02 to 05 July 2026.
